Devon Windsurf & Canoe Centre - Summer job vacancy Self Employed Kayak/Paddleboard instructor
The Devon Windsurf & Canoe Centre is a busy well established summer water sports business. We are an AALA and RYA registered centre. The Centre is run by 3 full time staff, and other instructors and helpers are used on a sub contract basis at busy times and to stand in for staff members on their days off.
... The position offered involves teaching paddle board and kayak taster sessions. In addition the ability to teach or assist with windsurf teaching sessions would be advantageous (although these skills can be can be taught and learnt on the job). Dealing with school groups and youth groups of all types.
Applicant as a bare minimum would be a qualified BCU kayak instructor.
In addition, any, or all of the following would be an advantage:- Paddleboard instructor DBS certificate First Aid certificate Safe guarding & protecting children certificate RYA level 2 safety boat qualification Life saving qualification. Previous experience working at a watersports centre with all age groups. Sense of humour and ability to fit in with other staff.
The job involves helping set up all the kit that will be needed and preparing the centre for the day. Then most days helping with hire customers, teaching or helping teach sessions on the water, helping with evening group sessions, and then helping pack all the kit away at the end of the day.
Job position is full time, flexible hours from 22 May until 30 September. During term time daytime working hours are dependant upon school bookings, most weekday evenings are busy, and then as many days as can be coped with (min 5) during the summer holidays. Salary paid is negotiable, and will be based upon previous experience and qualifications. It is generally a fun, enjoyable place to work, but it can be hard work with some long days.
Activities offered at DWCC include:- Kayak instruction Open Canoe instruction Windsurf Instruction Stand up Paddleboard instruction Taster sessions in kayak, canoe, windsurfing and Sups Watersports birthday parties Junior Watersports Club Equipment hire
During term time we have school bookings during the day and other group bookings such as Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Brownies, Boys Brigade etc most evenings. In the summer holidays we deal with hundreds of mainly sit on top kayak and Sup board hire customers, as well as bookings from summer sports camps and kayaking birthday parties. In addition, on Thursday evenings from the end of June until the end of the season we run our ever popular Junior Watersports Club.

had chloes and her friend jakes party here today and would recommend to anyone.

We had my boys birthday party here at the weekend and it was fantastic! The staff were really helpful and made the party flow!

The children had a great time on the water and really enjoyed the hit digs we cooked in the BBQ supplied by the centre! Would highly recommend for both a birthday party or for a fun afternoon!!!

Both my kids have been going to junior water sports here, this is their third summer taking part on a Thursday evening. They absolutely love it. Great fun, they meet school friends there and they make new friends each year. They're getting good excercise, practising swimming (a lot of 'falling in') and they're not watching a SCREEN!

Staff are brilliant, kids love them too! Can't recommend it enough.
