Dial Park Hall Christian Fellowship Description

We hope the following gives an accurate flavour of what we believe even though not everything could be covered on one page.

The bracketed references are to the Bible sources for the statements made.

We believe that:

There is one God, uncreated and eternally existing in Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28: 19). How God can be One Being in Three Persons is beyond human powers of understanding, but this is not surprising - He is God. And because of it, God is love in his very being (John 3: 35; 1 John 4: 8). He is a timeless relationship of love in himself.

The universe was created by God (Genesis 1: 1; John 1: 3). It is not something that evolved by chance. All humanity is one in God's sight (Acts 17: 26), and in this life we all benefit from God's creatorial kindness - even if we deny it (Psalm 36: 6-7).

God's ultimate communication with mankind is in Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1: 1-2). We can only come to God through him (John 14: 6). He is the "the Son of God's love" who became completely, though sinlessly, human to express God's amazing love and grace through his interactions with others (John 1: 16-17). His unresisting death on the cross revealed all God's love (John 3: 16), but also all God's holiness, in that he suffered judgment from God on our behalf (Romans 8: 3). He rose bodily from the dead, and his death and resurrection were a liberating victory over all forces of evil (Colossians 2: 13-15). And he ascended back to the place of all power with his Father (Ephesians 1: 19-22).

Jesus had to die because wrong is wrong. "Wrong" not just a matter of human values but of God's verdict on our actions. Our wrongdoing has broken our relationship with God. Because God is God there will be a day of judgment, and, though people have done many good things, the performance of none of us will merit our escaping condemnation and hell (Revelation 20: 11-15).

However, we find a loving, forgiven relationship with God by admitting our wrongdoing, believing that Jesus, God's Son, died and rose again for us personally, and abandoning any idea of our own good deeds or qualities contributing to our salvation (Acts 20: 21; Ephesians 2: 8-10).

Jesus is our Lord, and, when we believe, God gives us his Holy Spirit to help us live lives that please him (Romans 8: 1-14).

Jesus the Lord is coming again: firstly and suddenly to "rapture" all who have ever believed on him to be with him; and then, accompanied by these "saints", he will appear in judgmental glory to the world that rejects him (1 Thessalonians 3: 13; 4: 13-18; Revelation 1: 7). Every created being will one day bow to him (Philippians 2: 10), whether willingly or by compulsion.

For everything we believe and for our Christian practice we should be dependent only on the Bible. God "inspired" it and it is without error (Matthew 4: 4; John 10: 35; 2 Timothy 3: 16).
