Digging Up The Past arranges and hosts metal detecting rallies with a view to recovering and preserving artefacts that form an important part of our heritage.
We are keen to find and preserve our history and to do this we work closely with our local Finds Liaison Officer representing the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
DUTP actively encourages significant finds to be recorded with PAS which contributes to building up a 'bigger picture' of our local history.
We pride ourselves on our responsible approach to metal detecting and the contribution we can make to improving knowledge whilst, at the same time, providing an enjoyable and informative environment for members to enjoy the extremely fascinating and exciting hobby of metal detecting.
Digging Up The Past is fast establishing itself as the premier detecting club in Northamptonshire. The membership is steadily growing and the portfolio of undetected land available to choose from increases almost daily. We feel that it's only coins that should be hammered and not the fields!
We've received a number of queries from both existing and prospective members: why NCMD only and why the PNC checks? The answers to both of these questions are quite straightforward. At the moment, the FID is going through a transition period and will inevitably take some time to settle in. We want to ensure our members are covered by a policy that is current, consistent and will therefore cover us through this transition period. Once the FID is re-established then we will of course review this policy and amend if necessary. The need for PNC checks is equally straightforward: we do what we can to get the best land for our members at as reasonable a membership /dig fee as possible within the framework of a well-run, responsible and enjoyable club environment. To be eligible for this 5-star treatment we ask that we have the best members that we can possibly have (a fair request, we feel) and a PNC check goes some way to meeting this requirement and ensuring we know all that we can about applicants to the benefit of all club members. We have a duty of care for all our membership which a PNC check is only a part of, as well as insistance on an insurance policy (e. g. NCMD), ensuring health and safety requirements are met, responsible metal detecting guidelines are adhered to, legal requirements regarding the Treasure Act are known and obeyed, the importance of PAS recording is known and appreciated and so on. We feel it's elements like this that put DUTP into the 'premier league' of detecting clubs within the UK and why the waiting lists to join are always full!

We had to ban a supplier from this page this morning after their repeated attempts to access the members' area so they can attend weekenders and set up a stall and then this morning posting an advert on this page to sell detecting kit. Any suppliers trying to latch onto our club and use us as an easy money-maker will be treated the same way. We are not a vehicle for your business. Please close the gate as you leave......
Just a friendly reminder that if you are a member of this club we have our page ‘ digging up the past members ‘ where you will access our members only digs and interact with all the other members too!

The club is now full and we will not be taking on any new members in the current membership year. You can email dutp@outlook.com to be added to a waiting list but we are looking at next March time before we take on any new members. We will be having open weekenders at some point and these will be announced on this page. Digs other than open weekenders will be MEMBERS ONLY which means best mates, brothers, other relatives etc are also excluded. Members' children under 16 would be admitted, however. Thanks.
Any paid-up members with completed application forms but who have yet to receive a membership card and join the members only Facebook page who wish to attend this dig should phone Dave on 07542 738539 to receive the post code. This promises to be a cracking dig, with Roman, Viking and Bronze Age previous finds in the area on pasture.
WE HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY THE LANDOWNER AND SINCE OUR VISIT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO THE LAND HAS BEEN SUB-SOILED TO OVER A METRE DEEP AND THEN DEEP PLOUGHED TO ABOUT HALF A METRE, ROLLED AND THEN SEEDED. WE HAD SOME EXCELLENT FINDS WHEN WE WERE THERE BEFORE - THERE SHOULD BE EVEN MORE NOW!

You know I can't think of anything detrimental. Good and friendly membership. Obviously I need to rub shoulders with those that had success on the 10th. On Holiday, sods law.
Well organiser club with friendly, dedicated members. Well worth joining.
Really friendly group of people, quite often new land to be searched, definitely a good group to be part of, were everyone is friendly and no tit for tat.

Only been a couple of times but i retire in march so will be a regular attendee.A very helpfull and freindly club with some nice finds come of and not shy in opening up other fields if necessary.

Best club i have been with good bunch to have a chat with and no snobby detectorists like another northampton club iv been detecting with everyone is ready to help you out .new land is available all the time as Dave and Alex are actively speaking to new farmers to get new land . I have had many good finds at this clubs land and so have many others. Keep up the good work Dave and Alex youve made this the best detecting club around 👍
