What good is social media, if we can't use it to advance health care globally? Accessing relevant and accurate information is vital for citizen health and safety. Yet, as the WHO warned, in an age of digital information overload, false and misleading content can result in confusion, risk-taking behaviour and mistrust in public authorities. Highly qualified health care professionals often lack the platforms and communication strategies to make sure their knowledge reaches a larger audience beyond the walls of their hospitals or private practice, in a very accessible way. And that's where we come in. Our company was founded to bridge the gap between health care and social media. We equip doctors with the strategy to build their professional social media presence, and present medical information in an applicable manner that has the potential to reach millions of people. The more we, as doctors utilise social media, the greater the likelihood of spreading accurate medical information globally. That's one way to advance health care. Unfortunately it is still considered "unprofessional" or "a waste of time" for doctors to have a social media presence. But what better time than now to be a doctor on social media? Imagine if we would even incorporate social media education as part of our medical school curriculum.
