About Dinosaurland Fossil Museum

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum is a traditional museum with more than 12, 000 specimens on permanent display.

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum Description

Dinosaurland Fossil Museum is a traditional museum with more than 12, 000 specimens on permanent display. The museum is privately owned and funded exclusively by your admission fee. It is owned and run by palaeontologist Steve Davies and his wife Jenny. It is housed in a Grade 1 listed former church where the pioneering fossil hunter Mary Anning was baptised.

There are three main parts to the museum.

The fossil collection is housed on the ground floor of the building. There is a comprehensive collection of the local Jurassic 200 million year old, marine fossils ranging from Ichthyosaurs, ammonites, belemnites, crinoids, lobsters and oysters to wood and the tiniest microfossils. There are more exotic specimens from around the world to make special points such as the 73kg lump of dinosaur dung.

The Time Gallery is housed in a gallery running round three sides of the building. There are a series of models to show the periods of time in the history of the Earth. They show how the continents have changed with time and the evolution of life on Earth. Hopefully, it helps put the 200 million year old fossils in the collection into some sort of order.

The Natural History Room is housed in the old school room. A collection of shells, skeletons and taxidermy of modern animals so that you can compare present day creatures to the fossils.

Or you can just marvel at the splendour of the myriad specimens on display.
