About Direct Democracy Uk

Direct Democracy: Giving citizens an extraordinary amount of participation, granting a maximum of political self-determination.

Direct Democracy Uk Description

Direct Democracy UK was created to help spread awareness of Direct Democracy, how it works and why it could help evolve the political zeitgeist in the UK.

Direct Democracy is a system of governance whereby everyday citizens are asked to make more decisions on a broader scale of political topics and issues rather than with Parliamentary Democracy.

A Direct Democracy gives citizens the chance to join parliament on a short term basis, and become instrumental in voting and debating throughout their time in Westminster, before they then leave and pass the baton to another citizen; thus rejoining their previous career or path outside of mainstream politics.

Benefits of this system include everyday voices are heard more regularly, and citizens can feel they are chiefly involved in the running of their country rather than the exclusivity of career politicians and party machines.

However, drawbacks of this system include arguments that citizens know less about the economy and may struggle in making tougher decisions.

What do you think about becoming an MP for a year, then rejoining your career at the same point you left off?

How would you feel about everyday citizens from various backgrounds stepping in to help make key political decisions?

Do you feel MP's are disconnected from everyday British life and proceedings or do they do a good job in running our country?

Here at Direct Democracy UK we are looking to spark debate over this issue, and we invite all voices and ideas to be shared freely.
