The village is one of the best preserved in England with more than 200 listed buildings, historic castle, memorial gardens, dovecote, a fascinating museum, Church, Yarn Market and many historic sites of interest in and around its famous cobbled streets. The village is open all year round. Special events include Dunster by Candlelight, a magical occasion, which takes place on the first weekend in December, the annual Dunster Show in August on the lawns at Dunster Castle and The Exmoor Food Fest at participating restaurants in February. There are more than 180 events during the season at Dunster Castle, with music festivals and specialist food events around the village during the year. Dunster is ideal for family days out and holidays by the coast and beach (Dunster Beach is just a short walk away) and for outdoor activities cycling and walks on Exmoor National Park. West Somerset Railway, a heritage steam railway runs throughout the year. Car (machine operated) and coach parking at Dunster Steep by the Exmoor National Park Centre and at the West Street end of the village on Park Street. National Trust members may park at the castle. There are a limited number of free parking spaces along the High Street and West Street. Cash machine at The Memorial Hall on the High Street.
