Copied with permission from the owner. To those of you with friendly dogs who don't understand how others get annoyed at your dog approaching when they are only being friendly look beneath the surface...
I've just had a walk ruined by people with an off lead labrador approaching my three on lead dogs who just said "she's fine" when I asked if they could put her on lead. Maybe she is fine but what you can't see is how she is affecting the person and the three dogs you are let...ting her approach:
The lab on the left was so badly beaten he was terrified of everything in life, he's improving everyday but an unknown dog approaching sets back his training
The collie in the middle was attacked 5 years ago by another dog and is now terrified of unknown dogs, he also had his cruciate replaced 4 years ago, is blind in his right eye and had hip surgery 7 months ago. His fear displays itself as reactivity in the form of lunging and barking at other dogs if they come into his space, this could completely ruin his hip surgery
The lab on the right is a foster dog who is looking for a new home. He's also terrified of anything new and is out on a walk to work on gaining confidence in new places from his foster owner. Stressful situations really set his training back
The person walking these dogs has managed to get them all out for a walk and to do some training with them while her partner is at home looking after their young baby. She suffered from bad pelvic pain throughout pregnancy and by letting your dog approach hers she had to react by picking up the collie to prevent him injury.
Your dog may be "fine" but others are struggling trying to help and re-home dogs that have not had a good start to life so before you ignore someone asking you to keep your dog away think about what's under the surface and be respectful!
Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this and for anyone who might be thinking about adding another lab to their family do consider the loving boy on the right of this photo

We've just finished the beginner's class with Kim @ Doggy Daycare Dog Training. It's been a great introduction to the positive reinforcement methods that Kim uses - both dog and handler have enjoyed it that much that we've already signed up for 3 workshops and the Intermediate class!

We have just finished the 6 week beginners course and can highly recommend Doggy Daycare for all of your dog training needs. Kim is very experienced and this shows through her training, she has a good understanding of how dogs work and imparts this knowledge. Using rewards and Kim extensive guidance my puppy can now do lots that he couldn't do before! I like the fact that it is small classes and there is lots that is covered, it definitely exceeded my expectations. Thank you!
