Dogs life was founded in April 1990 by Roy Alldred who was a postman in Hove.

Roy saw dogs at home alone, so with time to spare he put an advert in the local press for a dog walking service. He was amazed at the response, mainly at that time from elderly and disabled people, and he soon realised that there was a need for mature reliable adults to provide this kind of service for dog owners who could not be at home 24 /7. So he gave up his job to the care of "mans best friend".
