My yellow T4 Van had its first outing of the summer on Friday and we stumbled into Double Locks, what an amazing place and all the staff so friendly, really good food and atmosphere, would recommend a visit to all.

User

Love this pub. Just wish the place was cleaner. Toilets are horrid. Food is good but expensive. The beer is great wen it’s good.....

User

Great place to walk/cycle to from the city along the canal. Good food & drink in a lovely setting, plenty of room for the kids & dog to play.

User

Food was above excellent.

Fresh, well presented and value for money, and all well worth the walk we made from the Quay

User

Absolutely love this pub and the fact it's dog-friendly is the icing on the cake :) great food, reasonable prices and a great summer vibe.

User

Visited for the first time two weeks ago with two of our dogs and it was a lovely venue. Friendly staff and (i think the landlords daughter) who spoke to us said they had a Bernese Mountain Dog too. Very good atmosphere and we went back again last week and met the landlord and Aspall the dog. Very nice people and will go back again soon to try the food. We will be going often now we found it.

User

The location is lovely!! However the prices have gone up so much!! I’ve been going for about 23 years now and today I think was my last visit!! £35 for 2 pints a burger and chips and a Caesar wrap is ridiculous!!

User

The food is good, the drink is fine. Pricey but no worse than anywhere else near by.

The problems are generally outweighed by the positives.

However a 15min queue to order drinks is daft.

This place desperately needs a bigger bar, or an app.

Get that sorted and you can have a 5⭐️.

User

Went for the first time in ages yesterday, was a queue for the bar but staff were working very hard. However we were here with children I was disgusted with the amount of dog mess in and around the grass areas where lots of children were playing. Perhaps some more signage or bins may help?

User

Visited for the 1st time this summer today... My friend went in to order a drink each and some chips whilst I watched the dog and baby outside... she came back with a tray of chips and drinks which we enjoyed in the sun on the terrace, but on the way home she told me that it was £3.50 for a small bowl of chips!!! Ridiculous ... She knew not to tell me before we left or I would of come back in and had something to say! There is no need to be charging that price it's just greedy!

User

Used to absolutely enjoy coming to this establishment. Always enjoyed the mix of local ciders and applauded the support for local business.

It appears that Young’s have now capitalised on all the good points by increasing prices to extortion. Unfortunately, the less endearing factors still exist (long queues, run down toilets, food that falls below the standards one expects for the price).

As a local I’d estimate prices for cider & ale are now around 10% higher than those on the quay.

User

Lovely setting but £1.90 for a can of coke no ice or lemon and not even asked think is a bit of a joke I knew it was pricey as last year popped in and had something to eat with the family and food was ok but far to expensive for what you had

User

Location very good we came on the boat from the basin in Exeter, we thought the food was overpriced and not particularly tasty £7 for a ham sandwich we thought was expensive and the bread was not eatable. The young girl who served us didn’t instil any confidence in us returning. On the plus side when remarking about the bread the guy behind the bar did not charge for the sandwich.

User

Great location - pub is looking really run down and could do with a little bit of a revamp! we went for food - your food is extremely overpriced & cant pull it off. one of us had a salmon salad this was quite clearly out of a tin a handful of lettuce and a bit of tarting up and you charged £13 for it - one of us had Ham egg and chips which was swimming in grease, the ham was pre sliced and it was £11 - for that money I would expect Ham off the bone and it should be Ham off the bone anyway! not very impressed, I see similar comments on here about your food and pricing and your answer is that it's the brewery that sets it- may I suggest you have a little chat with the brewery because you are sat on a little gold mine there and you need to be able to deliver. It was one of our group that wanted to go to you I really didn't as I'd had a bad culinary experience before and that was about four years ago and you haven't changed I'm afraid. Didnt say anything at the time as you have a feeling that it's run by youngsters and in being so would not really take any complaints too seriously. So come on double Locks pull your socks up!! I remember when this place was privately owned and the food was brilliant!

User

Gorgeous setting but extremely over priced drinks. Didn’t stay for a second round or for food as we had planned - found somewhere else more reasonable instead.

User

What has happened to the Double Locks??? once my favourite pub in Exeter, now bottom of the list! Went there to meet a group of friends who were celebrating birthdays only to find main room had been closed, chairs on tables, fire out; also food had stopped at 7pm so lucky some of us had already eaten. This was a Saturday night!

Ok, so bit miffed as no explanation from staff re why main room closed and they didn't seem bothered. Then got to 9.15 and we were asked if we were getting any more drinks as they'd decided to close at 9.45! Again no explanation given but definitely wanted us gone. Oh sorry, was a mention of 'winter opening times'

Conclusion - they like making money from big events like bonfire night and renting out gazbo in garden for parties, but definitely would be happier if didn't have regulars or had to cater for families and people just out to have a fun time in evening.

Be a long time before I visit again. Ahh, was so good back in the day, such a shame when pubs get taken over by breweries like Youngs.

User

What happened to the menu ? There used to a fantastic choice of food on . Now the menu is no better than that of a greasy spoon cafe . Very disappointed Bring back the old menu where the food wasn't a basic selection and the portions were of a reasonable size . Always used to bring the family here . Very much doubt I'll be doing so again .

User

Very poor 2 hot chocolates cold within a few minutes of sitting down. 2 sandwiches at £6.95 each and the bread was dry and stale add to the fact people hovering over you waiting to find a table, numerous dogs around table sniffing at your food & plenty of shoves in the back whilst trying to digest my 4 inch thick stale crust we couldn’t wait to leave. Your chef should stick to cheesy chips as they were edible maybe that’s the level of cuisine here.

User

Sorry, but the food was over-priced and lacking in flavour or imagination. The only think I liked about it was the location but that's not enough to make me want to visit again.
