Visited today as an early Mother’s Day celebration and it was lovely! There were 6 adults and 3 children (aged 21 months, 5 and 7) in our party and we had booked in advance to attend. Food was delicious, really nice setting and decor was very warm and inviting. It was very busy but we were very looked after by all the staff. Second visit for some of the family, but first for me. Really yummy food, genuinely the nicest tasting food whilst being out for lunch/dinner in a long time! The chef has a great range of food on the menu, we all had different meals and each single dish was cooked to perfection, very fresh, hot and homemade (even the children’s meals) and all a really generous size! Was very filling. Desserts had a great choice too, really was something for everyone. Chefs here are certainly a major asset to your team! Will definitely be returning and recommending to all! Great pub, great food and staff. Really lovely meal, if you haven’t been before, try it, you won’t be disappointed. Great for a special occasion or for a sociable dinner with family and friends.

Lovely meal for myself and 21 family for my 30th. Great service, great food and great value. Thank you!

User

Loved every bit of our meal and will be returning in the future

Just had the best pub Christmas lunch I've ever had..... and I've put quite a few away over the years! The only possible complaint I could think of is there was just too much. Portion sizes are enormous! I will definitely be back after Christmas to try out the normal menu. Loved the decor and the ambiance, and all the staff were cheerful and friendly too.

Just had sunday lunch! WOW! This place is so nice. Great environment, fantastic food and amazing service. The roast was outstanding with massive portions but still managed to squeeze abit of gypsy tart in. Would highly recommend this pub

Just had a lovely Christmas meal with friends. Food lovely and our waiting staff were first class, especially the owner’s dad, who I think deserves a special mention. My only gripe is that the veg wasn’t very inventive. I Wish more restaurants would include Red cabbage or the like, but at the very least a good cheese sauce with the cauliflower wouldn’t have gone amiss.

User

Just eaten our fathers day meal here and we were blown away by the quality of the service and food the staff were excellent nothing was to much trouble, the roast dinners are outstanding I had the pork and there were 8 slices of meat my wife had lamb and again there was plenty the roast potatoes were very nice and crispy and the gravy was the best I have had for years, there was a vegetarian in our group and the feed back on the mixed vegetable Wellington was very positive.

Just one tiny negative was there was no Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager which was a suprise considering it's a shepherd neame pub.

I took my daughters and my mother to The Dover Castle for lunch on Saturday 16th June. The food was excellent and the staff were courteous and very pleasant. I would certainly recommend this eatery to others.

User

Had an excellent Sunday roast. A very decent portion! You won’t go hungry. Very reasonable and service was perfect. We were a group of 26 and they did well to get all our dinners out at the same time. Well done. Keep up the good work. Would highly recommend.

The pub had also been refurbished to a very high standard and is very comfortable. Good job all round

User

First visit since refurbishment and new owners. Last visit with previous owners was very disappointed with service and food. Tonight went with work colleagues and was delighted. New decor looked great, cosy, invited. Staff so friendly and helpful. Food amazing and tasty. Had Christmas menu, Parma ham/ chicken delicious. Main roast turkey meal good size portion, large player that was full, 4thick slices of turkey, 4 roast potatoes, 4 roast parsnips, 2 stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, sausage and bacon, all served with delicious, hot and tasty gravy. So impressed. Apple crumble delicious but was so full from main. To finish off tea/ coffee and mince pies. Such a wonderful meal and will definitely recommend and return soon. Thank you for a lovely evening.

User

Fabulous food, staff and ambience. Visited twice in the last couple of weeks and each time it’s been faultless. Tried the new menu yesterday and it’s excellent. Just can’t recommend this newly refurbished pub enough.

User

A very welcoming Inn, food was plentiful and delicious. The staff were very accomodating. A great evening spent there. I would highly recommend paying them a visit.

We've visited The Dover Castle on several occasions since it has been tastefully refurbished, the food has been freshly cooked (and served on hot plates!) it was tasty and well presented, the staff are very friendly; we will definitely be visiting again. My only criticism would be that some staff are not quite familiar with the tills, as our bill was wrong on 2 separate occasions

User

Was friendly service , there new owners , they just need get a few things in right order, bearing in mind it was a large party , they brought out main meal then the veg , where's been much better the other way round , maybe a small hot plate under the veg to keep it all hot , then be perfect , teething problems hopefully , but think they do well

Visited on 7/1/18 for Sunday lunch, we were a party of 10. We skipped having a starter after seeing the size of the main course roast lunch - good job we did as the main course was huge to say the least! A more than very ample portion of roast meat - I had pork which was delicious. Veggies were served seperately and we're fresh and hot and served slightly crisp which we all like and a large Yorkshire pudding. Roast potatoes could have done with being served more crispy though.

Now, the gravy was pre- poured onto the meal and sadly also into the Yorkshires which made them a tad soft shall we say.

It would be better to serve the gravy seperately too in my view. It was a Bisto type gravy and was a bit over-thick & gloopy, also very dark brown and seemed devoid of any meat juices which was a shame so it lacked the real gravy flavour - these were the only downsides.

Desserts were also good. I had Banoffee pie which was excellent.

The pub was extremely busy and the staff worked hard and attentively. It was also a bit cramped and very noisey too.

Pub looked fresh and very clean & pleasingly decorated and the toilets were also extremely clean. The bar area is a bit cramped in my view.

We all left feeling extremely full to bursting.

It was very good value for money.

Would we return - yes

Would I recommend it - yes

Value for money - excellent

Above all, the food was hot!

8/10 from me

First visit here yesterday. Love the decor. Food was lovely, very large portions! Had booked a table for 6 which was an issue when we arrived and were then put on a table which I think was for 4, so a but squashed up against a wall. Also, as hardworking as the staff were, we felt ew were rushed through our courses without a break in between. Apart from that we had a fab time and will go back.
