We have just had an amazing weekend at Dower House and Spa as a surprise for my birthday. We had the four poster bed room and just loved it! The hotel is only small but feels cosy and intimate. I loved that the age and quirkiness of the building gave way to creaks and groans as all old buildings should. We had breakfast and dinner in the Storm restaurant and the food was superb. I was surprised there weren't more people in the restaurant on an evening as it was so good. We also had afternoon tea and I laughed so much at my other half trying to butter his very crumbly scone. We enjoyed using the spa and even got a last minute massage which was bliss. Everyone was so polite and friendly I really don't have a bad thing to say about our visit. I will remember our visit for a long time!

We had our wedding here in Dec 2007 and booked the whole hotel out all weekend for our friends and family to stay, it was the most amazing weekend ever and everyone who attended still talks about as being one of the best! The staff at the time couldn't do enough for us, the food was superb and the rooms were warm, comfy, clean and modern. A couple of years later we had a similar do for our sons christening and it was another amazing experience, although we haven't been back recently, I'd like to think it's just as good as it was back then! Highly recommended :)

We had our wedding at the Dower House in April and can't thank the team enough. Jonathan was great at communicating throughout the process and was a pleasure to deal with. The room was set up beautiful and the staff were polite and attentive without being intrusive. There was plenty of room for our guests to spread out and socalise. The food is fantastic and we can't wait to go back another meal there. Thanks again

This is our 3rd spa break, we absolutely love it. All of the staff are brilliant - very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent. The spa is relaxing and we all really enjoyed our one hour treatments. Looking forward to our breakfast now - and then we're going to re-book again for next year (and possibly a sneaky extra visit for my 50th in August) ���

Stayed over night. Met up with a friend for drinks and a wander. The staff were great. Couldnt fault the room. Will definitely stay here again when im visiting family in the area �

We stayed over at the hotel...great welcome again and the hotel room was spotless.. The atmosphere was great throughout the hotel.. Breakfast was absolutely delicious... My husband had his 50th birthday party at the hotel last weekend and it was fantastic. The room was beautifully decorated, the food was delicious and the disco (that was booked by the hotel) was excellent. All of the staff - in the reception, bar and restaurant - were extremely helpful and professional, as were Jonathon and Alison who we liaised with prior to the day. Thank you so much.

My fiance and I had a lovely overnight stay - making full use of the spa and 3 course meal package.

The staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly, especially Alison on reception and James our waiter. The food was excellent as was the service. The breakfast was cooked to order so it was extremely fresh.

To our delight, we were given the bridal suite - featuring a four poster bed. Our only gripe was the mattress was a tad hard but bearable. The room was immaculately clean.

The spa was fantastic - we had a hot lava stone treatment to die for! Our therapists Kristin and Christine were fab!



Thank you for a wonderful stay - we'll be back next time we're up North.

Have just spent a fabulous champagne spa weekend with friends celebrating a retirement. Wasn't sure what to expect but our experience was enhanced with first class service from the staff, excellent food and super body massage. Big, big thanks to all at the Best Western Dower House for making our stay such a pleasant one! x

Stayed here for my niece's wedding. We stayed for 2 nights and the staff were really helpful and very friendly. We used the spa which was great. All concerned with the wedding was fantastic. Thank you for looking after all of us so well

Myself and 3 friends booked the 1 night spa break to celebrate a birthday. We were greeted on arrival and shown where everything was. We each had a treatment, which was amazing! We had complimentary coffee/hot chocolate and made full use of the spa facilities. The rooms were a good size and clean. We enjoyed our 3 course meal but did felt a little rushed to the point we had to ask for 10 minutes between our main and dessert! We all slept well and enjoyed a full English breakfast the following day, James who served us was very accommodating. We checked out with ease and used the spa facilities again before we left. Perfect stay, friendly staff - would certainly return! Thank you.

Had an amazing day for our wedding in August the only down side is our so called bridal suite was nothing special 2 single beds pushed together very dated and asked to be moved but fully booked was not happy but nothing done about it and my sister paid as a wedding present !! Was told there was a bridal suite when booking our wedding but couldn’t see it as it was taken can see why now as that’s not what I call the best room

Single room ,tiny very noisy . Could not sleep because of motors running all night . Very hot even with heaters turned off . Unable to open a window and no air conditioning .Room 19 .above the kitchen and spa . On the plus side ,the staff were friendly .

Got a room in the carpark (2) which was tiny, poorly maintained and unclean. There were splash marks/stains on the ceiling and the skirting board, there was a big dint in, and paint missing from, the bedroom wall, and all around the lights in the bathroom was patched up with polyfiller. The lighting in the bathroom was insufficient to say there was no window, the sink was so small due to lack of space in the bathroom that it wasn’t a useable sink for anything other than hand washing, and I was disappointed there was no bath. Had basically no sleep due to a combination of very loud road noise (even on Easter Sunday night!!) - I think the windows are only single glazed despite the room being in the car park and on the main road into town - and the floorboards of the room above creak terribly, it was very very noisy from 6:30am, I’m surprised no one came through the ceiling it was so bad. Add to that the kettle which took so long to boil I actually thought it was broken, the lumpy and old bed, and curtains that weren’t even still attached to the curtain rings and it rounds this off nicely. Evening meal was very average, only plus point to dinner was Steve the waiter, he was lovely, joined in with the banter whilst remaining professional and efficient, an excellent member of staff. Breakfast was actually pretty good except for getting 1 pot of tea for 5 people! Would prefer to pay more and get a well maintained, clean, quiet room - sort it out!!

Very poor, choose your room carefully as ours which was number 4 was well below a decent standard. The shower sounded like a jet plane and didn’t work properly, the next morning I decided to have shower instead, it would have took me 3 hours to get a decent amount for a bath but as it was after an inch of water it ran cold. I complained to the manager and said I would pay for our breakfast and drinks but not the room he said it could discount the room which was not the full amount. The showers in the spa on the Sunday morning where freezing as the boiler had switched off so no hot water no heating. Would definitely not recommend this spa.
