Take a look back at last year's Spring issue of Cloisters and the fascinating story of the mysterious Miss Nickel from the DH Archive http://ow.ly/cUC050yPRfQ
To celebrate Shakespeare's birthday, we are inviting girls to record a Shakespeare monologue of their choice over the holidays and submit it to Mrs Mears-Smith. A panel of judges will then choose the best of these and they will have the opportunity to compete in a video monologue-off next term complete with costumes (as makeshift as you like – curtains are great). If we’re still working from home, you may even want to give family members a part too (extra points for including the dog!) Looking forward to this!
Earlier this term, members of the Downe House Eco Committee delivered a fascinating assembly to the Lower Sixth girls on the effects of fast fashion, palm oil and cobalt mining on the planet. Very well presented and certainly gave the audience food for thought. Find out more about DECO here http://ow.ly/jJkd50yO3U6
The Art Department have launched the Great Easter Bonnet Challenge - create your Easter bonnet from anything you have at home - post and tag us with your creation!
Girls in the Upper Fourth designed these lovely artworks to decorate the Science Block. All on a scientific theme, some celebrate famous scientists and others depict the butterfly lifecycle, the earth's layers, the anatomy of a flower, lab equipment and space travel. A big thankyou to the Maintenance staff for installing the artworks.
It's the end of term - we wish everyone a very happy and relaxing Easter holidays. Enjoy these wonderful Easter bunny drawings by the Lower Fourth who were introduced to Gilbert, Mrs Keeling’s rabbit! Gilbert sat and posed for their art lesson and the girls produced a drawing or a collage inspired by his perfect physique and manners. He didn’t move for almost three hours! Great work girls!
That looks delicious! Well done to Remove girl, Madeleine for cooking lunch today at home in her online cookery lesson with Miss Singh.
Did someone say Roger the Dodger crispie cakes?? Thank you Mrs Rodgers - we’re heading to the kitchen!
We may be apart but nothing can stop the Downe House community getting together online! Here are the AGS girls enjoying a virtual breaktime this morning.

Pleased to have been able to help our local community to make good use of the perishable goods when the Downe House kitchens closed yesterday. Thanks to our amazing DH Catering Department for keeping everything going til the last moment and we are looking forward to the moment when we can all enjoy your delicious food in the Main Dining Room once again.

Earlier this term, the Downe House Eco Committee (DECO) enjoyed a warm welcome by the @BritishStandardsInstitute at their first Horizon Scanning Day. The DECO learned about the BSI's role and the UN's sustainability goals and then had the opportunity to present what young people see as the key concerns facing the environment. Topics of discussion also included tax incentives for textile companies that recycle their water, carbon labelling on food and the development of community gardening. We're all adapting to remote teaching and learning - from online tutorials, home workouts and fitness logs to all lessons being live streamed for girls to attend according to their normal timetable, and recorded for those in different timezones. Our girls continue to impress us with their creativity and curiosity from their homes.
The whole community is supporting one another and making full use of the technology to make remote learning as positive an experience as it can possibly be in these uncertain times. Girls' Schools Association Boarding Schools' Association
