Dragon Hall Norwich Description

Dragon Hall is a unique, Grade 1 listed medieval trading hall dating from around 1430, renowned for its spectacular timber crown-post roof and intricately carved and painted dragon.

It was built by a merchant called Robert Toppes and was at the heart of his international trading empire. In its heyday it would have been filled with wool, cloth, timber, spices, pottery and other items that could be bought and sold. For centuries the original timber roof and vast Great Hall were lost, concealed within an everyday terrace of houses and shops. Today, the Great Hall has been restored to its original splendour and Dragon Hall opens as a museum, telling the remarkable story of Robert Toppes, medieval trade and civic life in fifteenth century Norwich.

Dragon Hall is also a venue for a wide range of learning, cultural and community events activities. It is a magical venue for weddings, parties and celebrations, a popular setting for markets and fairs and an inspirational environment in which children of all ages can learn, create and discover.
