Just collected my new road bike. Received great advice and the bike was an excellent price.

Avoid! Terrible experience for my husband. Drake's provided wheels that delaminated. independent evidence suggests they are not fit for purpose and not suitable for Andy's weight. They didn't seem to care.

I'm reporting Drakes Cycles to Trading Standards.

They sold me £1k wheels that turned out to be dangerous for me to use as I exceeded the weight limit significantly.

The rear wheel delaminated on a very short descent - Drakes did everything they could to avoid giving me my money back.

Despite what I think is clear independent evidence that the wheels fail basic braking safety tests (tour magazine say they 'utterly failed' a basic breaking test and delaminated - just as mine had), and clear evidence that they were unsafe for me to use, as I exceeded the weight limit substantially; Drakes insisted on repairing and sending the wheels back to me.

Drakes were happy for me to go out on the road on these wheels despite me providing evidence that this would put my safety at serious risk.

Thankfully the credit card company is giving me my money back - something they wouldn't do unless they agreed with me and the evidence I provided.

Went in for a few bits and pieces. They were very helpful and the bits were a fair price. Drake's has been at this location for as long as I've been cycling (over 30 years) so they have stood the test of time.

Bought all my bikes from these over the years. With the last one I bought all the accessories and for some reason I then checked their price against competition and to my horror discovered that they were 20% higher.

Went back and asked if they could do anything only to be accused of 'wanting something for nothing' by one guy. Thankfully someone else had customer service skills and dealt with it professionally.

The price of the bike was OK but accessories are not well priced. Having been a customer most of my life I will not return thanks to the silly throw away comment of one individual.

I have purchased a few items from Drakes Cycles including my main roadbike. The price and service were excellent and I would recommend them to anyone.

What has impressed me even more has been the after sales service and general customer support. I contacted them recently with a few technical questions regarding upgrades on groupsets and other components and was really impressed with the quick response and product knowledge. These were questions I could not even get answered for the main manufacturer !!!

In a world of slick websites and big brand retailers it is refreshing to find a company with real people who make the effort to support and care about their customers.

I finally found a bike I liked and wrote Drake's a question. Apparently they can't be bothered to reply.

I wish I could agree with most of the other reviews. However, I bought a quite expensive bike and had to take it back for the front wheel bearing checking with view to replacing it - this was only a few months after purchase. I was told the bearing was changed but was still charged labour. After a couple of rides the play in the bearing returned. I shall not return to buy another bike.

Friendly and honest . Bought two bikes from them and even when my latest one came from another on-line shop, they were still there to fix it and get me back on the road. Kind of customer care that the big chains can only dream of. Where else would you see staff ignore the middle age man eying up the £3000 bikes to help an 10 year old choosing some 3 quid accessory.
