About Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Transport.
Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency Description
We improve road safety in Great Britain by setting standards for driving and motorcycling, and making sure drivers, vehicle operators and MOT garages understand and follow roadworthiness standards. We also provide a range of licensing, testing, education and enforcement services.
Reviews
Two years ago, we began working with Transport for London, City of London police and Metropolitan police, forming the London Freight Enforcement Partnership (LFEP). It’s the first multi-agency unit doing targeted checks on dangerously non-compliant vehicles and drivers in London. Our work as part of the LFEP has led to 106 arrests, 221 vehicle seizures and 12 operator licence revocations. #weareDVSA https://www.gov.uk/…/public…/dvsa-ann ual-review-2017-to-2018
We want our staff to have the right tools and technology to do their jobs, whenever and wherever they’re working.
We’ve given people smartphones, with standard and bespoke apps that help them work more efficiently. And in our main offices, we’ve increased the number of interactive, multi-user touch screens, meaning less time travelling to meetings and more time to be productive. #weareDVSA

Over the past year we carried out nearly 2 million driving tests across Great Britain and 81% of candidates booked a test within 6 weeks of their preferred date. #WeAreDVSA

Today (19 July) we’ve published our annual review and accounts for 2017 to 2018. They show the important work our staff do every day to keep people safe on Britain’s roads.
Over the week we’ll share some of our highlights from 2017 to 2018, and introduce you to some of the people who’ve worked hard to achieve our successes. #WeAreDVSA

From 2013, the police have had the power to issue fixed penalty notices of £100 with 3 points on the driver’s licence for careless motorway driving, such as tailgating and middle-lane hogging.
Learner drivers will now be able to have motorway driving lessons, where they'll be taught by a professional good lane discipline.
From Monday 4 June 2018, learner drivers will be able to take lessons on the motorway with their driving instructor.
As part of their lessons, driving instructors will be teaching them not to hog the middle lane.
Let's see how far we can spread this, so every driver who uses the motorway sees this!

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear.
If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.
Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking.
