Duke Of York'S Picturehouse
Reviews
Tacky statues of legs upside down plonked on top of the cinema which is a Grade II listed building. Clean, plush, comfortable seats, decent leg room. Discerning choice of films. Friendly staff. Pricey but most cinemas are nowadays. Good bar and café but l wish food wasn't allowed to be consumed whilst watching a film. Nothing worse than strangers noisily, munching continously sitting next to you whilst viewing.
Fabulous cinema. Friendly staff, comfy seats, good movies. I hope staff employment contracts have been improved.
Small one screen cinema. Shows good films. Recommended.
Great old cinema. Seats are more comfortable than the national chain cinemas. The sofa seats are well worth the extra cost too. Good sound & picture AND you can take your drink from the bar in with you to enjoy with the film!
I've always enjoyed this cinema. The prices are good for some performances, a bit of a rip off sometimes. It's great to have a place that shows cult/indie/Japanese movies. The toilets are a let down but being an old building I'm sure that the plumbing is shot and that they are not permitted to make many changes. Great place for some history.
This is a really special cinema experience... Despite being bought out by Picture house, they've tried to keep it as close to the original feel of The Duke of Yorks as possible and it's really nice.
The chairs are so comfy that I've nearly fallen asleep a few times!
Love it here.
Take my under 5s for the weekly kids cinema movie which is usually a few episodes of some CBeebies shows! Good atmosphere for young ones, not normally busy. With the very young ones, don't feel the need to have them stony silent :)
Oldest and best cinema in Brighton. Independent and world cinema, comfy seats, great coffee, cake and beer selection
Friendly, relaxed environment. Excellent programming of movies. Great selection of drinks and snacks.
