Dungeness Coastguard

In the early hours of yesterday morning the team were requested to attend a incident involving a vehicle in Lydd with other emergency services. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the casualties.

Team requested to attend Camber beach on 20/04/18 @ 12.52hrs to search for a missing 3yr old child. The child was found and reunited with the parents.

The Dungeness team were paged at 22.19hrs on 16th April to attend Dungeness beach due to possible ordnance being located by a member of the public and had been posted on a local Facebook group. The team met with Kent police and located the ordinance, Coastguard liaised with bomb disposal from the Royal Navy and put a 100m cordon around the ordnance until 08.30hrs this morning. Folkestone Coastguard also attended early this morning to aid with the cordon while bomb disposal detonated the object out to sea.
If you do see any ordnance, flares or anything suspicious on our beaches, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Today we participated in a multi agency training exercise at Camber sands. The training was “sand hole collapse”, there were numerous dummies located in the sand dunes, all teams got stuck in and found all the dummies and retrieved them from the sand.

Two years ago tonight Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, Captain Mark Duffy, Winchman Ciarán Smith and Winch Operator Paul Ormsby set out on task on Irish Coastguard Rescue 116, and were tragically lost in the early hours of the 14th March. Always remembered as part of our Coastguard family, never to be forgotten.

Today up to 50 Coastguard Rescue Officers from across Kent came together to pay their final respects to a much respected Coastguard and a dear friend to all that met him. Gordon Sinclair inspired, encouraged and educated many Coastguard officers during his 20 years service. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Rest In Peace

Team paged today at 16.53hrs to a report of a person stuck in the mud at Littlestone. The team deployed two mud technicians to search for the casualty, casualty was found and bought back to the roadside to waiting Ambulances. Casualty has now been transferred to hospital.
Team stood down and returned to station at 18.35hrs.

Team paged at 10.39hrs today to attend Dymchurch beach to a possible vessel in difficulty, once on scene the only vessel in the area was a local fishing boat and was all well.

Team paged this evening at 22.05hrs to reports of a flashing light out to sea off of Dymchurch. The team couldn’t see anything untoward.
