Planting just one tree in the middle of a field or growing area can lead to a long term improvement in soil fertility. I read this week that If the population of North America consumed just 20% less meat, it would free up enough resources ( in the form of food produced for the animals, water and energy) to produce enough food to feed the 65 million people who starve to death a year... I was reading an article about the Amazon rainforest just now and was genuinely staggered by the size of the continued destruction of this sacred eco system. I'd naively assumed ,with increased global awareness, that Amazonian delta deforestation had slowed down, while in fact it's speeded up.. Here are some shocking figures regarding the clearing and deforestation in the Amazon rainforest and it's precious eco system alone.🌳😢
Every MINUTE 56,000 trees are cut down.... Every MINUTE 140 acres are cleared. Every DAY 200,000 acres are cleared via deforestation. Each year 7 BILLION trees are cut down .

No one told this tree when to stop, or what it couldn't do !

23 BILLION TREES planted in one man's lifetime ! One person can make a difference is a well used saying, but rarely backed up. But never was it more true than when referring to the remarkable Richard St Barbe Baker, founder of the International Tree Foundation. Known as the first conservationist, he spent most of his life in Africa combating deforestation by working with local tribes to educate and advice on altenatives more sustainable ways. During his long and varied life he was said to of been involved in the planting of 23 Billion trees ( that's with a B !) . What a hero and a lovely man too.
