East Anglian Sea School

East Anglian Sea School Description

East Anglian Sea School has set the standard for training excellence on the East Coast for 41 years. We are based on the East Coast of the UK at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington, on the River Orwell, half way between Ipswich and Felixstowe. Founded in 1973, as a small family business then called East Anglian School of Sailing, it has grown into one of the foremost Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sea schools in the country. Still owned by the second generation of the same family, the school has been around for as long as the RYA training scheme. As well as being an RYA training centre we are recognised by the Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the International Sailing Association Federation (ISAF).
The school has an excellent reputation built on the quality of training, shore-side facilities, highly equipped and well maintained yachts and powerboats and last but not least, suberb homecooked catering afloat.

Training
We have 45 friendly, approachable, patient and knowledgeable instructors, qualified to the highest standards in sailing, motor cruising, power boating and dinghy sailing. Training afloat is run using a highly equipped fleet of Jeanneau Sun Odyssey yachts, a Haines Motorcruiser, Hartley dinghies and a Ribeye Ribtec 585 for powerboat courses, all maintained to MCA standards.
A wide range of courses are on offer both in the UK at Levington and at our sister school, East Aegean Sea School, Marmaris in Turkey, catering for people new to boating right through to experts. Covering RYA courses from Start Yachting to Yachtmaster Ocean or Motor Helmsman's courses through to Motor Yachtmaster Offshore. We also offer RYA shorebased navigation courses and one day courses such as, VHF Radio and Diesel engine courses which are run all year round, at weekends as well as during the week.

One of the Sea School specialities is own boat tuition, where we put an experienced instructor on to a customer’s own boat (yachts, motorboats, sports boats, ribs and dinghies) and will teach to specific customer needs. This includes commercial boat training for the fishing, maritime and construction industries including wind farms support and safety boat cover, as well as anything from basic boat handling to race training for leisure boat owners. If your boat is not based locally, we can travel to you. Another speciality is our MCA four day diesel engine course which is a great addition to the skills portfolio for any commercial yachtsman, sail or motor.

What a fantastic school. Our instructor was Ken. A three day sailing course on August bank holiday weekend. Three doing day skipper's course and me on my second weekend for competent crew. Great instructor.

Definitely continuing my training with East Anglian Sea School.

We recently took our level 2 motor boat certificate. The course was excellent, with Brian our tutor extremely knowledgeable and an excellent tutor. We had a great sports boat based holiday in Spain and confidently and competently managed our boat around busy Costa Blanca waters!

Thank you so much for the last 2 days, patiently teaching George to sail on his own. He absolutely loved it and is already planning to get his RYA3. Out in his own dinghy today practicing his new skills. Lovely marina, never knew the place existed and will definitely be back.

Thank you so much for teaching Charlie how to sail - he got his level 3 and is already asking when he can go for his level 4. Incredible sea school. Thank you so much for all you help, support and advice !!!!

Thank you East Anglian Sea School. I'd have never of thought for one moment when I took my first course (comp crew) that just a few years later I'd own my own yacht. I write this review from vlissingen in Holland after sailing from Ipswich to Ramsgate, up to Dunkerque, on to Oostende and then to Holland. A great sea school, with great instructors. Once again a massive thank you.

One day Diesel engine course with Peter last Sunday was brilliant. Very interesting and very well delivered. I did the sea survival course with you a few years back and that was just as good. Thanks very much for a great day, I will be back soon hopefully for another course. I don’t think I can say anything negative about the day! Highly recommend to anyone! Thanks very much

My daughter was lucky enough to win a 2 day dingy course and she absolutely LOVED it. The training team of Julian, Ed and Nick made it! She came out absolutely buzzing on both days, thrilled she had learnt so much and done so much practical work and has asked when she can do her Stage 2!

From class based training to sailing skills, the EASS is up there with the best. Just completed a weekend refresher sail, brilliant is all I can say.

A great place to learn new skills. A great team and I now feel empowered. If their courses are as good as the radio one that I attended then they would be fantastic.
