This week, we have the return of Sole of Discretion - a fantastic fisher's co-operative based in Plymouth harbour. They are a group of small-scale fishers working on independent boats. The reality is that 96% of fish in UK waters are caught on gigantic vessels - so its good to support this independent 4% who are committed to and care for the marine environment
The fish is caught in the most sustainable methods available, and is iced ...on the boats at sea, so it gets to you as fresh as can be. You can read more about Sole of Discretions' guiding principles by reading their manifesto

What is it?: Easton Market is a weekly food market that takes p...lace in Easton Community Centre, on a Wednesday, 5.30pm - 7.30pm. There are up to 14 local producers who offer their goods, and thousands of people in the local community signed up to the mailing list and facebook page
Job: 4-6 hours per week, depending on how much you put in! Launching the online market, promotional emails, facebook and instagram posts; communicating with producers, potentially signing up more; promoting in the community; hosting the market (2 hours on a Wednesday evening, 5.30pm - 7.30pm)
Pay: Anywhere between £15 - £80 per market, depending on how successful you can make it. Pay is on commission from overall sales of the market.
Person: Someone who is well established in the Easton / BS5 community, who could easily bring a group of new people to the platform - or someone who is very good at engaging new people. Reliable, energetic, interested and dedicated to local and sustainable food, capable of running special events every now and then, and ultimately, doing what is needed to get more regular customers on board.

Producers get 80% of takings - more than any retail shop. Also, only what is ordered gets picked / prepared / delivered, meaning there is less food waste.
... N.B: While we know it is important to reduce meat and fish consumption in general, it is crucial that if you do choose to eat a small amount, it should come from the most environmentally sound places possible.
