Eloka Ikegbunam For Streatham Wells

Eloka Ikegbunam is a community campaigner in Streatham. He was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Streatham Wells in May 2018.

A Lambeth resident of 20 years, Eloka has grown up both in Stockwell and Streatham, as well as being educated in Lambeth. He hopes to study Politics and International Relations in September at university. In his free time, he gives back to his local community by volunteering and campaigning for a fairer Britain and issues close to his heart.

He joined the Liberal Democrats in July 2016 after becoming dissatisfied of the direction of the Labour Party was heading in and due to the way Labour was running Lambeth. Researching the history of the Liberal Democrats, he changed his perception of the party and made him want to join the party, which he did.

Due to Labour winning 59 out of 63 seats in the 2014 Local elections, he decided that he would want to become a councillor as he believed Labour was not doing enough to make Lambeth a better and safer Borough. If elected as the Streatham Wells councillor, he would hold Lambeth Labour to account for their wasteful spending, as well as their poor record on delivering affordable housing.

Eloka has volunteered as a bullying and reading mentor and is committed to improving education opportunities, hoping to improve the lives of all students across all Lambeth borough schools. He hopes to see that all Lambeth school have a counsellor, whereby children in need have someone there that they can go to in their hour of need.

Since joining the party, he has become more involved with the party, recently been co-opted into his local party's executive. He was elected as the English Young Liberals Vice Chair (Membership) in February 2018. He hopes to secure a career in International Development after University.
