During a tonic clonic epileptic seizure, the body jerks and shakes as muscles relax and tighten rhythmically. Breathing may be affected and become difficult or sound noisy, skin may change colour and become very pale or bluish.
After the seizure the person affected may feel tired, confused, have a headache or want to sleep.
This video by Epilepsy Society shows what it feels like to experience a tonic clonic seizure:

We are delighted to announce that we will be increasing the number of apartments at Ballington House in early 2019.
Ballington House is a specialist rehabilitation service for women with a Mental Illness, Personality Disorder and/or complex needs. The service provides care and treatment in a unique environment consisting of single and two-person, self-contained apartments. The apartments mirror a domestic living situation and offer a safe, structured and private environment t...o help reinforce socials boundaries. The environment facilitates recovery and helps patients prepare for community living.
The service focuses on psychological input and provides specialist, evidence-based interventions including Trauma focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
The service was visited by CQC earlier this year and the inspectors commented on the vigilant approach to risk assessment and monitoring to ensure patient safety. Patients reported that staff were ‘extremely caring’ and they complimented the care and the environment. Patients found that the design and layout of the hospital replicated life in the community and helped prepare them for discharge. Patients said that staff encouraged independence and positive risk-taking. CQC reported that discharge planning commenced on admission and patients had clear goals of what they needed to achieve during their rehabilitation.
Hospital Director, Mandy Leadbetter, said “Ballington House has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC recently so we are thrilled to be able to expand the service. The apartment model promotes independence and encourages patients to take care of their own space, skills which will stand patients in good stead for community living. We have a skilled and stable staff team here and we are all really looking forward to welcoming patients to the new apartments.”
Building work is due to commence in September 2018 – watch this space!
