We were delighted to learn that Clarice Lispector is the author of the month for May in the London Review of Books. Clarice is one of our most influential and celebrated writers. A very good choice by London Review of Books! Photo: Chirico’s portrait of Lispector.

Last night the Embassy of Brazil had the honor of hosting the launch of Somos Brasil by acclaimed artist Marcus Lyon. The exhibition explores the diversity of Brazilian identity at the outset of the 21st century through ultra high quality portraits, image activated app based soundscapes and DNA. Somos Brasil draws three elements of identity: visual, spoken and genetic together to cast light on the personal, social and cultural diversity of Brazil. The exhibition is free, and open Monday to Friday from 10AM to 6PM & Saturdays from 11AM to 3PM until the 7th of June. Photos: Beth Kress & Luiz Chagas.

Today, we celebrate #VEDay also in #Brazil. Did you know Brazil fought with the Allies in #WWII, sending more than 25,000 men to the Western Front? Air and land power of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (#FEB) helped liberate Italy, Brazilian naval forces fought in the Atlantic.
In the photographs: 1) Tributes paid to Brazilian veterans in Maranhão, Exército Brasileiro. 2) Brazilian cemetery in Pistoia, Italy. 3) "The Smoking Snake", badge of #FEB. 4) "Senta a Pua", badge of the Brazilian Fighter Squadron in WWII

Today is a celebration of Lusophone culture: the Community of Portuguese Language Countries ( CPLP - Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa) established the 5th of May as the International Day of Portuguese Language and Culture. As part of these celebrations, Ministério das Relações Exteriores is supporting cultural events in many countries to promote music, cinema, literature and academic debates in Portuguese. In London, commemorations on May 7th @KingsCollegeLondon wil...l also mark the 100 years of the Camões Chair in Portuguese Studies at King’s.
Portuguese is spoken by approximately 250 million people in four different continents. The history of the Portuguese language is directly linked to the Portuguese expansion across the globe in the 15th and 16th centuries.
CPLP members are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guiné-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tomé and Principe.

25 years ago, we lost Ayrton Senna, three times F1 world champion, one of the best drivers of all time and a Brazilian national hero. Ayrton Senna will always be an inspiring model.
On this #SennaDay, Embassy of Brazil in London pays tribute to our great champion.

“You can be talented, you can work hard, you can be lucky to have the right car, the right team, you can have wins but you cannot buy charm and personality. And Ayrton was that kind of personality,” Berger recalled ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Brazilian’s death. ( The Times)

It’s been quite a musical month at the Sala Brasil. After our series of recitals, yesterday evening, Anna Setton brought us a handsome sample of one of Brazil’s greatest prides, the MPB – a broad designation for a wealth of varied rhythms, such as samba, bossa nova, pop, and countless others. The programme included classics by Dorival Caymmi, Caetano Veloso, Toquinho, João Donato, and her own songs, a few of them written alongside Edu Sangirardi, whom accompanied Anna Setton on the piano. Alternating flute and saxophone, JP Barbosa completed the formation. (Photos by Beth Kress)

It’s #InternationalDanceDay! Dance is entrenched in Brazilian culture. Did you know samba has its origins in African ritual dances? Or that Bolshoi has a school in Prefeitura de Joinville - SC called Instituto Escola do Teatro Bolshoi no Brasil? And that Brazilian Cia de Dança Deborah Colker is among the most prestigious dance companies?

Lovely Embassy and great location. Very warm and helpful staff at cultural event I attended. I hope to have the chance to attend more events in the future. Unlike other embassies which are very exclusive and picky in who can attend, I like the fact that the Brazilian embassy hosts events that are truly open to the public. Well done!

Is anyone having troubles with WA and Mr. Arthur Barreto Dreys?

If yes, can we start a group to discuss this matter?

Excellent exhibition of black and white photography 'Canavieiros' from 1987 by Paulo Pimental - documenting social, economic and environmental aspects of labourers cutting vast acres of sugar cane by hand in the Zona da Mata region in Northeast Brazil, often with whole families involved in the task.

Why don't you answer your phones?????!!!! Absolutely terrible 'service.' You are literally in charge of an entire country's worth of VISA's, documents and passports and the people you're supposed to 'help' have to go to a broken site to work out what the hell they're supposed to do. Why do you even exist?
