About Empty Shop Hq

HQ was a long term project for @EmptyShop. It provided cultural platforms and a safe space for the community to come together. It ran for 9 years.

Empty Shop Hq Description

Situated in the heart of Durham City, Empty Shop HQ is a fully licensed cultural hub and performance focused venue.

We are currently hosting our friends Steam Machine Brewing Co. for a summer residency. That means they have taken over the bar area to bring their craft beer experience to Durham City for July, August & September. Expect some of the finest craft beer available, brewed in County Durham and available on tap at HQ.

Empty Shop HQ was established in 2010 as a permanent home for the organisation. Previously unused for a decade, this beautiful, old building forms the centrepiece of our placemaking agenda.

Originally housing artist’s studios and exhibition space HQ rapidly evolved into a hub for the creative community and in late 2012 acquired the relevant licenses to formally become a multi-disciplinary arts venue.

HQ now plays host to a diverse and constantly evolving programme of music, theatre, spoken word, talks and lectures.
