Engineers from University of Southampton have powered a 15m-long unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which has completed completed its first fully autonomous flight in Portsmouth:
This week our first-year civil engineering students took part in the Constructionarium challenge at the Construction Training Board's site in Norfolk, where they built a scaled-down version of a famous structure. Here are some photos from previous challenges:
Earlier this month we hosted an international conference to mark 50 years of Ship Science at University of Southampton. We were joined by Ship Science, Nautical Studies and Maritime Engineering Sciences alumni to celebrate:
Congratulations to Yew Jun Ying, a current third year Mechanical Engineering student here at University of Southampton, who has won the electrical challenge in this years' The Telegraph STEM Awards for his research into how we can cool and manage waste heat from aircraft:
Well done to all of our third-year students who are handing in their Individual Projects today!
The AudioScenic spinout, which combines academic expertise with commercial leadership, is using technology uses destructive and constructive sound cancellation techniques to produce realistic 3D audio from a single, compact soundbar:
This #ThrowbackThursday we're looking back to 1979, when the world's first cryogenic wind tunnel was designed and demonstrated at the University, before the principle was adopted by others, including NASA. The tunnel allowed large passenger jets to be modelled under cruise conditions.
