One of the great joys of working as an English teacher is thinking about what really matters in the subject. And it's one of the great frustrations that sometimes what matters can get pushed to one side by the pressures of policy and examination directives. Our mission at the English and Media Centre is to find out what matters to English teachers who share our broad vision for the subject and to translate that into great publications and courses that fit in with, but also tr...anscend, the restrictions of those directives. This term we're taking this rather literally with two landmark events - the publication of a new book by Barbara Bleiman and a hybrid conference/ CPD day for teachers and other professionals working in the field, both entitled What Matters in English Teaching.
