TO TEST OR NOT TO TEST? Recently we were invited to tender for a set of CBTs, each a 100-question multiple choice quiz to be delivered to applicants in a list of 30 or so countries. At first this seemed well within our capability until we realised the tests were not to be delivered online but supervised in a specific venue to be provided by us in each country. Again we could have sorted this through training companies at each location, but we withdrew. Why? Because succes...sfully passing the test could have resulted in the person practising medicine in the UK. How could we guarantee that someone wasn't selling a crib sheet to candidates for a small (or large) fee? A number of our safety induction video clients have suggested the possibility of delivering an induction and quiz online before contractors arrive on site. In the event, none have taken up this option in case of cheating. More thoughts on this at https://trainingmultimedia.co.uk/scored-s afety-quiz.html

DRONES LEGISLATION You'll have seen the promises to clamp down on the use of drones, following the chaos caused at Gatwick Airport. Drone footage can be an excellent addition to a corporate video, so it's good that responsible, professional drone operators are not going to be stopped. Our client Steve Coulson at Martek Marine / Coptrz shared a useful article at http://bit.ly/2Fn58um

PITY THE POOR ACTORS ... Yes, literally poor. We have worked with many actors over the years, typically in soft skills videos, such as customer care, management, procedural training and so on. https://trainingmultimedia.co.uk/training -video-production.… But fewer projects now have the budget for drama, even though it can add significantly to the impact and engagement of the video. A survey shows that most actors earn peanuts https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment- arts-46356689.

MOVING TO HTTPS Since Google are downgrading sites which do not have this extra level of security, and the Google Chrome browser labels them alarmingly as "unsecure", you will now find our website for training video and e-learning production at https://trainingmultimedia.co.uk

GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE (GMP) We have made a number of training and induction videos for clients explaining GMP protocols, which are standard in pharmaceutical and much food production. These also incorporate Good Documentation Practice (GDP). We've added a special page on the website to cover this: http://www.trainingmultimedia.co.uk/good- manufacturing-prac…

CONTRASTING PUBLIC ATTITUDES TO SAFETY Fascinating clip from Indonesia on Youtube showing a street market around a level crossing. https://youtu.be/ae2ZmBu8SAk As the barriers come down and a train approaches, everyone calmly moves aside just far enough and in good time, but notice the guy who leaves a display of fruit between the rails. Do people there have a better idea of their own safety than in the UK, where the railway has to hide behind steel fencing? The other clip shows what happens at British level crossings - https://youtu.be/1KIfCShMfgU In Switzerland, by contrast, the railway is not fenced off. Are they more sensible there? This may explain why we've been kept busy making safety videos for 30 years - http://www.trainingmultimedia.co.uk/safet y-induction.html

MAKING THE MOST OF THE TRIP Video jobs can take us anywhere. One we're working on at the moment involves shoots in Kent, Plymouth and Dundee. Always nice to travel a bit early, rather than dashing there and back, so we can enjoy being tourists. Neil, the cameraman, and I stayed at a very agreeable pub behind Brunel's Saltash bridge in this picture.

HANDY FOR BUSINESS TRAVELLERS Now railway left luggage offices are largely a thing of the past, we've often found ourselves lugging laptops, overnight bags, etc. around a city when we've not been able to leave it with a hotel. #Stasher (formerly City Stasher) is a growing network of places, often city centre newsagents and the like, who will store your stuff for a while. You need to pre-book at https://stasher.com/ They seem cheaper than the few left luggage facilities at mainline stations. We've not tried to leave a full load of video kit yet, but it may be possible.

NICE TO HAVE REGULAR CUSTOMERS COMING BACK AND BACK AGAIN So many of our current jobs are for regulars who evidently like our work - our 4th project for an energy company, now wanting us to film in Kent, Plymouth and Dundee; our 5th and 6th projects for a pharmaceutical company; remaking of two big multimedia safety training packages for an oil multinational - the original version was for Egypt, then remade for Oman, now for Indonesia. http://www.trainingmultimedia.co.uk/multi national-multi-lan…

AWARDS INTERVIEW DAY Adrian spent an interesting (and challenging) day in Blackpool at the Chamber of Commerce on a panel interviewing finalists in the Creative and Digital category of the BIBAs, the Lancashire business awards. Challenging because such a range of companies to compare. None of our competitors in the training video and e-learning field luckily! https://www.thebibas.co.uk/

GREEN SCREEN SHOOT Very productive studio shoot in conjunction with the Media faculty, Edge Hill University to create some fictional scenarios to illustrate IT software training material for a military client. Thanks to Mark and the students and also actors Martin and Lee that we worked with. A great way of pretending we were shooting in a war zone without the risk or expense! And also of livening up a series of computer software screengrab videos.

DO WE SUPPLY CSCS CARDS? Definitely not! Had a phone call today from someone who had googled "CSCS card Skelmersdale" and found us top of the list through an online directory called Cylex. Checked it out and found that the directory had our company name wrong, plus a load of inaccurate or out of date info. Yes, we know the construction industry and make lots of safety videos for it, but #CSCS cards are at www.cscs.uk.com

ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER We've just finished a site safety induction for an M&E contractor, who describes the video as "excellent" and has not asked for a single change to the first edit - highly unusual. We were able to keep the budget right down by shooting in a single day at an NHS hospital site in Enfield and using our own stock footage to show activities that were not available at that site. http://www.trainingmultimedia.co.uk/const ruction-safety-ind…
