Equiflexion - Laura Clinton - Equine Musculoskeletal Therapy Description

Equine Sports Massage (ESMT) and Equine Musculo-Skeletal Manipulation Therapy (EMSMT) can help improve your horse's physical health, performance and wellbeing.

I hold a diploma in ESMT and EMSMT from the Institute of Complementary Animal Therapy (ICAT) and I'm a member of the Association of Complementary Animal Therapies (ACAT). Fully insured.

Both therapies can benefit all horses from the family pony up to the experienced competition horse. They can be used to help treat a range of ridden and behavioural issues to help your horse move correctly and freely.

I primarily cover Cheshire, Wirral, north Shropshire and North Wales but appointments are welcomed from outside this area.

Please contact me on 07702598338 for more details or visit www. equiflexion. co. uk for more information.

Times are a changing for me and for Equiflexion, it's been time for a new challenge! (Although I am still treating so don't panic!)
Many of you know, my career before Equiflexion was in journalism and public relations, and life has steered me back in that direction. I've joined my husband Dave in his web and software development company, Titan Webtech, and launched my own PR business, Titan PR, which I'm incredibly excited about!
So, what does this mean for you and your hors...es? I am still treating but I've cut down my geographical area and working days. I've already spoken to the regular yards and owners I've regretfully had to let go because they're just too far away now. So it'll just be a bit of trial and error for a while as I try and fit everyone else in, but I will honestly do my best! What will help is booking in advance and not cancelling appointments with less than 48 hours notice (which, by the way, I do have a chargeable cancellation policy for...)
I do still absolutely love treating your horses and I have no plans to give this up, but physically and time wise, it's taking its toll. Also, with now having Joshua I needed to make some changes to my work life.
Please take a look at the website for my new venture! One of my PR specialisms is of course Equestrian & Rural so if you know of any businesses I could help please point them in my direction! www.titanpr.co.uk
Also, as mentioned, my wonderful husband is a web and software developer, so if you need a website let me know! www.titanwebtech.co.uk
I'm sure I'll be seeing many of you very soon, and you won't even notice there's been any changes πŸ˜‰

A fab image showing how your position and the way you ride effects the horse's musculature.
When I see clients I ask how the horse is going and often get told 'she's stiff on one rein', and they're hoping I can fix the issue. Sometimes I can help, sometimes I can't. If it's a recurring issue it's usually related to a subtle lameness and/or the rider's position and way of riding.
As you can see in the image, if you block with your inside hip and leg and twist your body, your h...orse is going to find it difficult to bend to the left because you're saying 'turn left' with your hand and head, but 'turn right' with the rest of your body. Over time this is going to produce asymmetries in the musculoskeletal system. Hacking regularly is a great way to counter balance this.
So when I ask if you're having lessons or physical therapy yourself, I'm not trying to insult you. You have a huge effect on your horse's way of going and performance. Your therapist will be working very hard to help your horse but we're not miracle workers, we do what we can in the time we have. It will pay dividends if you're at least aware of your own weaknesses and asymmetries.

A great day with Ashbrook and Hampton vets today, super content! I've learned new things and refreshed some knowledge that had been pushed to the back of my brain! A fascinating talk from Gemma Pearson on training methods, particularly on clicker training, and how 'bad' behaviour traits are just learnt behaviour that can be relearnt differently. A short section on rehab which really hammered home that no matter what vets and therapists do, it's the commitment of you the owner that really brings about the change - if you do the exercises prescribed and teach new learning patterns for how the horse works. Also counts as CPD points for me, winner!
