About Equilibrium Kit Cars

Equilibrium Kit Cars, proud manufacturer of the Ford Focus based Sonic7.

Equilibrium Kit Cars Description

Equilibrium Kit Cars (EKC)

EKC was formed in October 2015 by Angus and Kate. We are approved by Mills Extreme Vehicles (MEV) Ltd to be the exclusive manufacturer of the Sonic7. EKC is focused on quality engineering and design style. Angus has worked in the automotive industry for over 15 years and Kate has a passion for great customer service, style and quality.

Our fabrication and engineering partners are carefully chosen skilled professionals who work very closely with us to provide the best calibre components available. The chassis and other fabricated components have been modelled in CAD to ensure accuracy and a new jig has been developed to ensure every chassis is identical and correct.

We are committed to offering you a great experience every step of the way on your kit car journey. If you would like any further information about the Sonic7 or have a general enquiry please contact us.

The Sonic7 is a modern alternative to the Lotus 7 clone, using the MK1 Ford Focus as a donor.

The Sonic7 was designed by Stuart Mills to cater for customers of Mills Extreme Vehicles (MEV) Ltd who like the MEV Rocket but desired more bodywork and weather protection. The sharp modern styling created a stir in the kit car scene which, prior to the arrival of the Rocket and the Sonic7, had been dominated by 1960’s replicas.

The Sonic7 was designed around a bespoke lightweight tubular space frame chassis. Torsional rigidity testing revealed high levels of stiffness whilst the lightweight Glass-Reinforced Plastic (GRP) body panels remained unstressed. The overall styling was based upon the MEV Rocket’s slow curves. The Sonic7’s curves run up and out creating a very sleek, sharp, pleasing and yet unusual design. The original wooden pattern or buck for the body was made on the MEV Rocket chassis hence the wheelbase and track width remaining the same, but the Sonic7 chassis is made mostly from square tube to simplify fabrication.

If you are looking for something contemporary, fresh and distinctive then the Sonic7 is the car for you.
