Esha Architects Description

ESHA is a RIBA Chartered Practice established in 2004 by three highly experienced architects, Neil Embleton, Willie Harbinson and Peterjohn Smyth, who had worked together for more than twenty years. Their experience is very comprehensive, covering a wide range of work and building types in the fields of masterplanning, urban design, housing, health, further education, offices and schools. Key projects included the Urban Village at Poundbury, Dorset for The Prince of Wales; Synthetic Chemistry Laboratories for the University of Bristol; PFI Hospitals at Bishop Auckland and Wishaw; the remodelling of the historic barracks at HMS Drake in Plymouth; and student accommodation for the Combined Universities in Cornwall.

Since its formation, ESHA's work has included, among a wide range of projects (particularly in the housing field): a 223 dwelling expansion to the village of Rhostyllen for The National Trust; a new town of 5, 500 dwellings at Sherford, South Devon for Red Tree; and a 90 dwelling village extension at Keelby, Lincolnshire for the Brocklesby Estate; all of which have achieved planning consent. Completed building projects include: four care homes and a research centre for the Epilepsy Society; a mixed-use urban block in Yeovil for ZeroC; an affordable housing development at Great Limber; 13 dwellings in the centre of Wotton-under-Edge; and a development including a rugby club and 50 dwellings at Whitchurch, Cardiff.

Current projects include: a masterplan for a small new town outside Bucharest for Kato Drys; a neighbourhood plan for Old Market, Bristol; and several housing developments: three in Somerset and Wiltshire for C G Fry & Son; four for Charles Church East Wales; and two in St Paul's, Bristol. Currently on site is our project for a library, health centre and flats in central Bristol for Chatsworth Homes.

A recent competition success was for our design for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract.

The practice is based at 36 King Street, a listed building next to the Theatre Royal in the heart of Bristol, and has full technical, CAD and administrative support.

Our main strengths are our record in achieving planning consent, the long experience and skill of the three partners, and our ability to respond very promptly to our clients' needs. All design work is carried out personally by the partners.
