Evans Cycles - Holborn

If possible I would add another star to this review!
My bike's break cable snapped and the team from Evans Cycles Holborn fixed it very quickly and at short notice. Everyone was super friendly, but a special thanks to Will and the mechanic who was in the shop this Thursday!

It used to be a nice place but staff has completely changed. I give 2 stars only for the previous experience (Ben was fantastic! Where is he gone?). Unfortunately now I would give only one. I have a feeling mechanic doesn't check the bike before giving it back to the customer and I had to come back twice for the same problem.

I got good service and decent prices. They also price match.

Ben is the best mechanic around in any evans i ever been in. And he is quite beautiful too mind. love from patty xxx

Lee and the team gave me outstanding service after i had a bad puncture that burst both my tube and tyre. Advice was great. Service was first class and as is usual for Evans good quality products at a good price. Cheers to the Evans Holborn team!

Just pop in on the off to ask about the difference in the Brompton bike models, halfheartedly considering buying one, we were approached by William and I have to say how incredibly impressed we were by his polite manner and his product knowledge. We left the shop completely sold on the idea of purchasing a Brompton and doing so from Evans. He was not pushy or dismissive when we asked questions which showed our inexperience as riders and told us of things we would not have even though to ask which is exactly what you want when you are a novice. His a credit to the company.

I have just started to bike in London. I got a folding bike from a cycle scheme, brand new. The chain was slipping and crunching in the highest gear (7), I could only use the 6. I took it into this shop and asked if they could take a look at the gears and service them. After the service I picked it up and payed 35 pounds (for the bronze service).
On the way home the gear 7 was crunching and slipping. I rode it back to the shop in the morning and took it back in. Being new to biking I thought they would take it back in and fix the issue I'd originally booked it in for. There was very little interest in anything I had to say, the work was done in their eyes and the Mechanic said it was fine. I was getting frustrated and a bit confused at this point. I asked what do I do now, the gears are slipping still? Again I was met with "the mechanic says its ok"

I also had to write these down on my phone when I left the shop:

"Could book it in for another service but its going to cost you"

"Take it back to where you got it from"

"Switch out for new parts"

"What do you want me to do"

The guy told me the mechanic test rode it.
I asked if he could try and check the problem. He took it around the block and said theres a bit of noise but its ok. He said the seat was loose and tightened it with a spanner, something the mechanic must of missed while he was test riding it. I gave up and left the shop. That lunch time I strapped my phone to the back of the bike with cable ties hit record and rode to the Evans store West End. Showed them the footage, explained my situation, the Guy said it looks like an alignment issue. He rode the bike around the store stopping and tweaking the bike, after 10 minutes he handed it back all gears working great. It restored my faith in Evans - I had no idea these places could be polar opposites. Maybe the other guys were having a bad day, maybe. I'll be avoiding this store from now on though. AND! Thank you Evans West End!

These guys were lifesavers, I had my wheel stolen whilst at the gym.
The guys got me all the equipment, assembled it and fitted it even blowing up the tyre! Excellent friendly store team, great service and a credit to Evans cycles. Thanks so much

I've had a long standing relationship with this store and they've consistently delivered repairs, service and support for the 2 bikes I own and commute on. The new manager (Joe) is one of the best assets the store has, (his predecessor Rob was pretty fantastic too!) and he runs a tight ship with staff that are helpful and willing to help. Some bike shops can be a bit stand off-ish but Evans Holborn is the exact opposite, welcoming and accessible. Good range, good value for money. Thanks for the recent new crank for my Trek Superfly. 5 out of 5 deserved.

RUDE, UNHELPFUL STAFF
I bought a second hand bike and one bolt needed tightening so i went in and asked for their help.
The little guy was very helpful and wanted to lend me a spanner but the rude fat one with the glasses stopped him and i heard him sayin "we don't have the tool for it". (???)
Then he turned to me and said they can do it for me for £25 pounds.
I said come on, it's just one bolt i can do it myself if you can give me a spanner. He said he can't because they keep missing. I told him the shop is empty, there's three of you here and i will be here by the desk. It's not gonna go missing.
He said that's their company policy so he can't lend me a tool. They can do it for £25.
I said cycle surgery charged me only £8 for a much bigger job and this is just a bolt. His answer was "well, you probably have to go there then!"
I said WOW, thanked the little guy for trying to help and walked out.

I went to cycle republic nearby and they tightened the bolt for me smiling, with no charge!

Good range of stock and nice friendly staff. Was especially impressed by the range of spares on the shelves - really good for people who like to fix their own bikes :-)
