The vampire facial- what is it?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP or vampire facial) is a medical treatment that has been used over the years, for things such as wound healing, and itβs safety is well established. PRP therapy involves injection of the clients own platelets and fibrin for the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles or scars in the face, hands, and neck. Platelets have growth factors on the surface which stimulate collagen production when injected into the ski...n, and has been used for facial rejuvenation since 2006.
How is it done?
The skin is first prepped and cleaned, and a cream is applied to numb the skin. Blood is taken from your arm and placed in a test tube which is then centrifuged (spun to separate components of the blood). PRP is then prepared and activated. It is then initially injected into any obvious lines or wrinkles. The remainder of the plasma is then injected all over the rest of the skin area to be treated.
What are the benefits?
Results are not immediate, but over the weeks following treatment possible benefits are; * Increased collagen production * Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles * Firmer, tighter skin * Improved moisture retention * Enhanced skin tone and texture
What are common side effects?
Expect minimal swelling, bruising and redness for 12-24 hours. A bruise at the needle site may be visible for 2-3 days. Side effects can vary from person to person, but during your consultation you will be informed of what to expect.

I get my fair share of clients with problems caused by another practitioner, especially with fillers. Make sure your practitioner is suitably qualified and experienced, with the training and skills to deal with serious complications should they occur. Donβt be looking for bargains when it comes to your face- if the price seems too good to be true, it usually is! From syringes of filler being shared between clients, to counterfeit/dodgy products sourced online, Iβve heard it all. #safetysunday
Happy weekend to all my clients, new and regular π busy weekend treating clients for me ππΌ what are your plans this weekend? Are you going out or staying in?

Dermal fillers!
There are over 160 brands of dermal fillers, but what are they? The majority are made of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule that attracts and binds water in the skin), and are injected into the skin to improve the appearance of lines and add volume.
... The human body produces two proteins called collagen and elastin, and they keep tissue firm and elastic. As we age, the production of these proteins is reduced, and existing collagen breaks down. This contributes to the signs of ageing we see- sunken cheeks, deep lines and hollow eyes, as the body has limited ability to keep tissues strong and supple.
Dermal fillers work with the bodies remaining elastin and collagen, making skin appear more youthful.
The longevity of dermal fillers varies greatly, and depends on many factors such as the brand used, and factors that vary per individual (such as metabolism, age, smoking, etc). As a guide they can last anything from 6 to 18 months. Because the body naturally produces and breaks down hyaluronic acid, the body will naturally break these down at different rates dependent on individual factors.
Are they safe? Dermal fillers are generally very safe, providing a reputable product is used correctly by a medical professional who has received special training. Side effects can be common, and include swelling, pain, redness and bruising. There are some serious complications that can occur with dermal fillers, but your practitioner should go through these with you, and know how to deal with these if they occur. Your practitioner should also go through a thorough consultation, and ask about your medical history and expectations, to ensure dermal fillers are a suitable treatment for you.
If you have any questions regarding dermal fillers, drop me a message π© and Iβll do my best to help. Do you know someone who wants to know about dermal fillers? Tag them below β¬οΈ If you found this post helpful, drop a π in the comments π
