Falmouth Tall Ships Association has welcomed the pending arrival of Kaskelot, a three masted barque who is due to arrive in Falmouth on 19th August and who will be moored off Trefusis Point, Flushing. She is visiting Falmouth for a week during her summer tour through Europe where she is set to visit France and the Nordics before returning back to her UK home in Bristol for the winter.
John Hick, Chairman of Falmouth Tall Ships Association has said ‘it will be lovely to see ...this beautiful ship moored in Falmouth Harbour. Under her new ownership, we hope this is the first of many visits by her’.
Kaskelot was originally a Baltic Trader built in Denmark in 1948 by shipyard J Ring Anderson at Svenborg to carry supplies to remote coastal settlements in East Greenland. During the 1960s, Kaskelot worked as a support vessel for Danish fisheries in the Faroe Islands. She was purchased by Square Sail, Charlestown in 1981 and featured in many TV and film productions including Return to Treasure Island, The Three Musketeers, David Copperfield, Longitude and Shackleton.
Now under the ownership of Sportcel and following a 4 ½ million pound refit, she is sailing the seas and offering a unique experience.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to sail out for ½ day sails from Falmouth which will be running on Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th August from 1400 to 1700 hrs. The costs are £45 per adult and £30 per child (12 and under). You may bring your own lunch and eat on board before the sail – only light snacks are available on board.
This is a perfect family activity with all ages welcome on board.
If you fancy a chance of sailing this beautiful vessel, tickets are available through www.tallshipkaskelot.com . We look forward to seeing you on board!
