About Fareshare
FareShare fights hunger and food waste. We take food that's good to eat but can't be sold in shops and redistribute it to charities UK-wide.

Many families struggle as food and childcare costs increase over the holiday period. That's why our #ActiveAte programme supports clubs like Bilton Hall near Newcastle so that they can continue providing this vital service to their communities, and ensure children get an active and varied experience as well as the nutrition they need over the holidays. We caught up with Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) to find out how #surplusfood from FareShare is making a difference to people's lives across Hampshire.
“We’ve had guests who weren’t able to cook at all, or just living on microwave meals, completely isolated in their flat, who are now coming out to meet and talk to other people and getting a nutritious meal. If we had to buy the food it would become prohibitively expensive for the residents, it just couldn’t continue” says Cl...aire, PHP’s community engagement coordinator.

We expected to feed 20,000 children this summer. Now we're feeding 50,000 each week - and you can help us reach even more.
In June, we launched #ActiveAte, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of holiday hunger and increase our provision of meals for children at risk of food poverty this summer.
Last year, we supported 200 charities - but more than 350 holiday programmes across the UK have now signed up to receive regular food deliveries. And if you count the additional s...upport we provide through our FareShare Go scheme, the number rises to 1,000 projects, and 160,000 children being fed every week!
This year’s figures in comparison to 2017 demonstrate the glaring need for food provision in our communities across the UK.

July was a record breaking month – not just for temperatures, but for the amount of good food going to good causes! We redistributed 1,024 tonnes of food, for the first time going over the 1,000 tonnes mark within a single month – what a fantastic milestone!
For comparison, in 2003 FareShare redistributed 1,046 tonnes of food in the whole year!
#Foodwaste, the bigger picture. Every year in the UK at least 250,000 tonnes of food is dumped in landfill, turned into biofuel or ground up into animal feed, while the UN estimates 8.4 million people in the UK are living in food poverty.
We say #feedpeoplefirst - how about you? Find out more and get involved.
When it comes to food waste, we like to think we know the bigger picture. Those old images of the European tomato mountain being bulldozed into the ground. That discarded slice of pizza littering the street. The mouldy lettuce we’ve hastily hurled into the pedal bin.
Well think again.
This is good, fresh, in-date food being wasted every day, on farms, in manufacturing, in retailers. Tonnes of it, over 250,000 tonnes to be exact. And that’s just in the UK.
... If you want to reduce the picture, then sign up to volunteer with FareShare at fareshare.org.uk/volunteer
Help us do something about it.

brilliant to deal with very nice people, was disapointed today with the food it was 3 days out of date, cant give it to the families i help so will have to be thrown away
Went along to FareShare today with my team from work and we were knocked out by what goes on here and the hard work the permanent staff do as well as the dedicated volunteers. Volunteers like us today who go along for the day can't help but be impressed by the organisation. Speaking for myself, my experience along with one of my colleagues went out with a regular volunteer driver to half a dozen charities across London dropping off many pallets of food to crisis centres, homeless shelters etc. I'm in awe of the unbelievable organisation and meticulous care taken to get the food sorted, packed and delivered to the charities to make a difference.
Volunteered with London FareShare on Friday last week. Great initiative and friendly staff and volunteers - will go again for sure! Eyeopening as to how much food is wasted, they do a great job in making sure it does not go to waste.
Thank you Fareshare for your excellent service, for delivery Dostiyo's first food supply. Very polite & friendly staff, keep up the good work you do.
People who do an amazing job. Thank you for what you do!!!
Just started up with Fareshare for a youth and toddler groups I help with and today we got some eggs from a Tesco's store who works with Fareshare and it meant we could give the toddlers scambled eggs for their snacks
It has been very positive experience for me to volunteer with Fareshare. I learn so much and enjoy interaction with the staff and other volunteers. The organisation contributes so much to reducing food waste, poverty, hunger, and stress on the environment, given its size and resources. This brilliant idea should be multiplied and applied to more aspects of life to make the world a better place. Thank you Fareshare.
I've been to my local Tesco and donated food today. This should be an all year round "Fareshare".
I have volunteered at the Kent depot in Ashford since it opened in July 2014 just finished 4 weeks full time over Christmas whilst on uni holidays back to 2 afternoons now until Easter break. Really great charity to work for & helping to save the environment too !! well done Fareshare :)
I have done my very little bit for 3 hours at my local Tesco in Fareham for the past 2 years. Lovely experience great people generous donations from most and friendly Tesco employees to boot. Would like to do a lot more if I can. This is so needed.
Fareshare donate food to @Direct2yourdoor4u and we distribute it to the homeless. Thank you for helping us help those in need!! Fantastic service!
As the lead in a non profit enterprise (Little Chefs Big Chefs CIC - find us on Facebook) which helps to support and teach families, children and individuals how to cook and eat healthier, we are proud to be registered with Fareshare.
We use the donated foods in some of our sessions but also donate some to local vulnerable families through social workers, family workers and health visitors helping to alleviate hunger.
It is a brilliant initiative that helps share food but also helps to avoid waste. :-D
As one of the warehouse managers im obliged to say that i had a great time but in truth it is the best place i have been to as a volunteer and a member of staff, i do so love it and all the people that i work with every day are the best
As a trustee of a homeless charity I appreciate the quality of the items we are given to turn into nutricious meals and the excellent value for money we get for our subscription to the delivery service. The delivery crew are quick and efficient too!
Absolutely wonderful what FareShare does for communities! Please volunteer and help out in any way possible
A Wonderful place....
Such a good cause.....
If you have a spare hour or so .....
Give it to FareShare..
I have always been an anti-food-waste personality. FareShare is doing a good job as regards this. I'm resident in sub-Saharan Africa and I know how much food is wasted in a lot of developed countries. Thumbs up to FareShare in ensuring less waste, as well as meeting the needs of the needy.
I will be glad if FareShare can enlarge their tentacles, probably get to sub-Saharan Africa soon. I'm waiting...
I spent six months as a DWP conscript at Fareshare in Newcastle,I saw first hand how not to run a food distribution operation, the staff, volunteers, and to some extent the DWP conscripts, got first choice of the donated food, if you put this with the waste, generated by incompetent, or nonexistent, record keeping, its no surprise that most of the complaints are,"we never get what we order", for most part when I was there, at least one, usually both,of the vans were not road legal, despite constantly being told this by the drivers, most of which were DWP conscripts, nothing was done about it, if you were a volunteer you were put through a basic training scheme, if you were sent by the DWP, you were just expected to get on with it, even, as in most cases, if you had absolutely no experience, as you got to the end of the six month compulsory DWP stint it was suggested, you might like to come back as a volunteer, nobody ever has.
It's not clear whether the pheasants these people take have been shot using toxic lead shot - is this stuff safe?
