About Fareshare Lancashire And Cumbria

Run by Recycling Lives, FareShare Lancashire and Cumbria tackles food waste, providing food for charities and community groups across the North West.

Fareshare Lancashire And Cumbria Description

FareShare is a national food charity, fighting hunger and tackling food waste. Regional FareShare centres across the UK collect surplus but in-date, high quality food which would otherwise go to landfill, and redistribute it to charities, not-for-profits and community groups, who turn it into nutritious meals for vulnerable people.

These charity groups are known as Community Food Members, and they include breakfast clubs, day centres, homeless shelters and hospices.

FareShare Lancashire and Cumbria is run by Recycling Lives, a national recycling company and social welfare charity. We are committed to making a difference in our community and in communities across the UK.

If you are, or know of, a charity or community group in Lancashire or Cumbria which provides food for vulnerable people, get in touch to see how we can help you.

We would also love to hear from anyone who may be interested in volunteering.

Busy morning for our comms team, talking to Heart North West & CFM Radio about our work tackling #holidayhunger. We're proud to be working with extra community groups over the summer holidays, as part of the national #ActivAte campaign, to feed families who are struggling.

Braving this blustery weather to head up to Cumbria today as we launch our newest Local Collection Point, as part of our expansion. We’ll be delivering food and goods to Rheged Centre for eight schools to access quality food and help divert goods from landfill. Helping communities and the environment!

We loved having our friends from British Gas's Coventry division in again yesterday, to volunteer and learn about our work - especially given how kind their feedback was: "It was a absolute pleasure to see all the great work you undertake to help feed people. We never fail to be impressed by the work you carry out to support the most needy and vulnerable - you definitely are making a difference."

We just love these pics! Will Fletcher, the Managing Director of our parent organisation, Recycling Lives, visited us a few weeks back for a photoshoot. He's been chosen to feature in a national exhibition, Faces of a Vibrant Economy 2017, by Grant Thornton UK LLP.

We're brightening up this very grey Monday with lots of colourful fresh fruit for our CFMs!

It's cauliflower cheese for lunch today...and tea...and breakfast... because we've had eight pallets (that's a few tonnes!) of fresh cauliflowers delivered this week.
Thank you to Huntapac - a Lancashire based producer - which made this donation to us after a bumper crop. We'll be sharing this with our members, to start making healthy, hearty meals.

Yes Clarke! Good luck from all the team at the Food Redistribution Centre. Clarke volunteered with us a few months back and was a great team member. We're thrilled to see you doing so well!

Get a load of this posh nosh - being served up using collections from the Food Redistribution Centre! 😋
Hats off to the team at Motiv8-Lancs CIC for putting this spread on for the communities they support.

Great morning with this lovely lot! Sharing stories and benefits of becoming a Community Food Member. We hope to be working with you all very soon, as expand across #Cumbria, opening Local Collection Points for community groups and charities to access food and goods.
Thanks to Rheged for hosting us, and also The Westmorland Family and Business In The Community.

Stay where you are Cumbria, we're coming to get you!
Looking forward to meeting community groups from across #Cumbria today as we are expanding across the county. We'll be at Rheged from 10am to tell people about our work and how they can benefit from #food for as little as £50 a month.

Go Viv! Our team member Vivienne was recently named Volunteer of the Year! She won at Community Gateway Association awards - pictured here, fifth from left.
Vivienne is our newest member of staff, as our Food & Fuel Connector, but has been with us since day one as a volunteer. She has also volunteered with Feast For Peace, Preston Food Partnership, the Clarhc Project and many other projects.

If you're an early riser, tune into BBC Radio 4 at 6.25am tomorrow to hear us feature on a programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b090vrgd< br> We were interviewed for Every Last Grain, as we take veg collected by the Gleaning Network NW from farms which have enjoyed bumper crops. We've had tonnes and tonnes of kale, cabbage, cauliflowers and leeks in recent weeks which would have otherwise gone to waste. Instead it has gone out to our 100 members to make tasty meals for families, children and disadvantaged groups.

We're so proud to have had an impact on these volunteers - the team from British Gas's Coventry operations spent a day with us learning about our work and the impact food has on communities. And since then one of the lads has signed up to do more volunteering! Good man :)

'Gleaning: gathering leftovers after a harvest.'
We went out with the NW Gleaning Network again this week to collect food fresh from the field ready to distribute it to our members. Over the last few weeks Julian and our volunteers have collected cabbage, kale, cauliflower, leeks and lots more. This veg would otherwise be ploughed back into fields or go to waste so we're super proud it will now go on the dinner table!

FareBear loves an adventure! This week he delivered lots of food and goodies to Disability Equality (nw) Ltd in #Preston, a charity supporting adults with disabilities.

Another busy week for the Food Redistribution Centre:
We had a team from British Gas in volunteering with us...we've been out with the Gleaning Network getting fresh food straight from the field...FareBear has been on his travels to Disability Equality (nw) Ltd...and of course we've been distributing loads of tasty, quality food and goods.
All in a day's work!

We are very proud to launch this short film about the impact of our work at the Food Redistribution Centre - WATCH HERE: http://www.recyclinglives.com/food-redist ribution/
It follows food from 'From Crate to Plate' and shows how we are tackling food poverty and reducing food waste.
With thanks to His Provision CIC, The Hollin Street Project & Ivy Street Community Centre for their involvement, and of course all of our hard-working Community Food Members for their commitment.
... Please help to raise awareness by sharing this film.
