Rained again today and now very humid. Does not bode well for wheat crops or any lodged crop

Just been offered some C2 Campus Large Blue Peas seed. Stiffest LB pea available - one grower commented that their crop left a stubble!. Anyone wanting seed let me know. info@farming4profit.co.uk

The UK Farmer Faces a Catch 22 dilemma - economics of 'combinable crops', potatoes and sugar beet for the medium term look pretty miserable. An upturn in pricing may well come if either there is a major 'weather event' (possibly El Ninio will cause sufficient disruption), or conversely the uncertainty over the EU referendum will weaken the £ over the euro - likely to be short term unless the UK public votes to leave!
A light at the end of the tunnel comes in the form of ene...rgy-producing crop Miscanthus. Linked to electricity generating giant Drax Power who have an obligation to co-fire biomass with coal, or otherwise face massive financial penalty for at least the next 25 years; Drax have agreed rolling ten year supply contracts at index linked fixed prices. This means any grower who signs up to grow Miscanthus can budget to receive a net margin (baled and ready to go) of £500/ha minimum relative to soil type index linked for the next ten years. That's a 50% return on investment compared to solar array which sits at a paltry 12%. More details http://www.farming4profit.co.uk/sample-co ntract-miscanthus…/

Nice to know this significant native crop to the UK is getting some serious attention for a change. With a panicle that can withstand the UK weather and major health benefits over wheat we need to maximise market opportunity.

The conclusion of a three year UK study has shown that using Lupins as a home-grown GM Free protein source, as opposed to imported soya offers financial gains to poultry through reduced feed intake without weight gain loss, darker-coloured yolks and less stressed birds. Similar benefits in young stock and aquaculture rations also discovered. These translate into financial savings too. See Hot Topics on www.farming4profit.co.uk

Want the opportunity to earn a 50% return on investment, - 10 year index - linked Energy Crop for marginal land where current crops no longer provide positive return. A recent article in farming Press suggested that Solar Energy offers a worthwhile ROI of 12%, yet Miscanthus Cane production quadruples this return by an average 50% ROI. www.farming4profit.co.uk for more details

Finally some sense creeping into oilseed rape seed availability (if only a modicum) with Mesurol - treated seed being made available. Four varieties, including semi dwarf and Clearfield. Let me know if interested.

User

If you are struggling with blackgrass and want a total kill in your oilseed rape, go Clearfield, Cleranda/Dash and follow up with Kerb. More info on Clearfield - info@farming4profit.co.uk

Website taken for ever, but at last we are starting to test. Any growers offering to have a 'play around' with it to find the bugs?

User
