About Fawley Home Front Heritage

The Parish of Fawley will be hosting an inaugural event during the weekend 25th and 26th June 2016 to honour our heritage.

Fawley Home Front Heritage Description

The parish of Fawley will be hosting an inaugural event during the weekend 25th and 26th June 2016 for the whole community. The event is to explore the stories around the importance of the New Forest during the Second World War and in particular during the build up to, and launch of D-Day 1944.

In the Parish of Fawley we have a great deal of heritage to share with visitors. The Church of All Saints Fawley is already a repositary for the flags and standards of several of the Allied Nations whose servicemen and woman were stationed here during the conflict. In turn they left us a legacy through their interaction with the local community. We shall explore this link through the stories of those within our Parish and beyond who will share their memories with us. In the lead up to the weekend we will present a number of talks, lectures and films to tell these stories which will also be part of the programme during the actual weekend's activities.

We are in the planning stages of this fantastic community event. We plan to invite Embassy representatives from several countries including Poland, Canada and America as well as servicing members of the Armed Forces all of whom will join us in an act of remembrance.

All participants will be dressed in clothing of the time and we encourage everyone who attends to join in this aspect of the 1940s theme. There will be swing orchestra and jitterbugging dances and other musical events under a marquees aimed at all ages.

Themed activities and museum will be held at the Fawley Council building which will be transformed back into the 1940s.

Camping will be available locally for visitors and more information on the exact details will be published in due course.

There will be a retro /vintage fair with many stallholders and re-enactors with vintage vehicles to add to the memories of the weekend.

Everyone is welcome and ticketing details will follow soon, please follow us and if you wish to take part in any aspect of the event or if you have a memory to share please do messages us.
