Well where do we start?
It may look like over the winter we have been quite but we have been busy planning where F.E.R.N Outdoor Adventures C.I.C. will go in 2019. And now we can share some very exciting news with you all.
It has just been confirmed that we were successful in a grant application that we made to the County Durham Housing Group. It's the first one we have secured and are very excited to be working with them for the next 12 months.
... Where you maybe thinking? The work will be carried out in the local village of West Auckland.
The grant is going to allow us to restart the Adventure Club that we had to pospone last year and restructure what we were doing. We will be working with local agencies providing opportunities for the young people not just outdoor activities. We will be getting involved with community projects, bringing families together providing fun activity days, offering volunteering opportunities and training to local residents and having days out taking part in lots of fun activities.

We can offer a range of activities from nature walks in the local area to much bigger events to help raise vital funds for your school through sponsored walks and event, soft archery, bush craft, including the safe use of fires, outdoor cooking or simply toasting marshmallows, team building and initiative... exercises to help confidence building through outdoor learning and play. We offer fun navigation learning and can offer awards in the Young Navigation Award Scheme at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels. We also offer Geo Caching, introducing child and young people to a game that can be played worldwide with the whole family. It encourages children, young people and families to spend quality time together in the outdoors and incorporates fun, exercise and confidence building using modern technology. All of the sessions can be delivered on the school site and all equipment is provided.
F.E.R.N Outdoor Adventures C.I.C has the experience, skills, qualifications and insurance to be able to deliver a first class learning experience to your children. We can transfer learning from the class room to the great outdoors, using various sessions such as navigation and map reading, introducing pacing and bearings etc. We can help you to plan residential visits and field trips in line with curriculum learning, we offer after school clubs so the children can have fun and adventures in a safe and controlled manor with minimal cost to the school and families.

Today we had a local family come to see us after Santa left them a little surprise to enjoy after Christmas. The mini explorer's ventured into the woods to learn about shelters and different ways of building them. They worked together to build a great shelter, we toasted marshmallows and had a nice hot chocolate to warm us up. Afterwards they were taught some safe and useful tips on cutting wood. A great mornings adventure was had on a crisp winters morning.
