Festival Of Spanish Theatre Of London

We are the festival that celebrates Spanish theatre in London. An independent initiative that has created an important cultural exchange since 2013. Our events include: contemporary and Spanish Golden Age plays, lectures and workshops.

The Festival of Spanish Theatre of London, or FeSTeLõn as it is also known, is an independent initiative with the aim of creating a cultural exchange between Spanish theatre companies and a British based audience. It was founded in 2013 by Mariví Rodríguez Quiñones, a lecturer at King's College London, in response to the lack of Spanish theatre being performed in the English capital. Since being founded, the festival has brought theatre companies from Spain to London each year giving them the opportunity to reach a new audience.

Over the past five years, FeSTeLõn has been growing and gaining more of a presence in London, not only amongst Spanish speakers. With the use of surtitles, the productions are also accessible to those who are hard of hearing. FeSTeLõn has also been able to allow Spanish companies to perform in their native language whilst also guaranteeing that all those interested in Spanish theatre, regardless of their knowledge of the language, are able to participate and enjoy the productions.

As well as the work it produces onstage, FeSTeLõn has also dedicated itself to introducing an array of activities offstage to its programming including Q& A sessions, talks and workshops with the Spanish theatre companies. Moreover, last year, Rodríguez Quiñones began spending time with local secondary school Notre Dame, specifically with young students from Spanish speaking communities who have found it difficult to integrate to school life. Rodríguez Quiñones donated her own time every week, holding theatre classes for students aged 13-15 and helped them develop their own performance pieces. They were also invited to a production during the two weeks of the Festival.

This year, FeSTeLõn, now a small team of passionate people working alongside Rodríguez Quiñones, will be offering a series of workshops from this January to May 2018, with an incredible programme to follow from the 11th June-24th June 2018!
