About Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

This family-run business is a dream fulfilled, taking three years in the planning, designing and building stage, before opening in May 2008. Doing most of the work ourselves, we hope we have created an attractive environment for our much loved animals and birds, as well as a large variety of wildlife habitats. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do

The first day of spring and the ‘early bloomers’ are looking great in the garden.
It’s also World Frog Day and the wildlife pond has been filling with frogspawn!
We reopen for the 2019 season on the 6th April.

Sunny Sundays! Less than 3 weeks until we reopen and some new animals have arrived. Two Alpacas called Ronaldo and Monty.
Sadly last year we lost Herman from our trio due to old age. Alpacas are social animals and are better in groups of 3 or more.
Henry and Hamish are enjoying more company and everyone is settling in fine and sticking together!

5 weeks until we reopen for the 2019 season!
Last summer was very busy and saw the arrival of a number of new animals including Morris - a Common Myna. Though only small he has plenty of attitude! Mynas are from the starling family and brilliant mimics repeating many different words and sounds.
He has been getting much tamer and talking to the staff all winter! Today we tried to get a video but he wouldn’t preform. Hopefully he will be in full voice for the visitors soon.

Another lovely day in the park. The staff are busy doing the ‘usual rounds’ and the meerkats are doing the same!
The ‘Mob’ make regular patrols round the enclosure to check their territory, as they would in the wild. Today they have been out all day enjoying the sun.

Just a quick reminder that the park is still closed until 6th of April. There is a lot of building work going on around the park but things are finally starting to take shape! We will upload some progress pictures soon.

With a -6C start to the day, we are up early feeding, watering and checking all the animals as usual. However making sure all the animals had fresh (unfrozen water) took much longer today!
They are all well bedded up for the winter in warm shelters, with the tropical or less hardy ones having heat.
A crisp clear day has seen most of the animals out enjoying the winter sun!

Though all the animals are still to feed and clean out, we are working 'minimum' hours over Christmas until the new year. We thought on a rare sunny day we would get ourselves and the animals into the festive spirit! All were closely supervised and some were more cooperative than others!
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas from all the staff and animals at the park. We will have some more updates in the NY as several projects are ongoing.

We may be closed for the winter, however we are constantly out improving areas around the park. It’s nearly December but there are still a few flowers brightening up the garden...even if only for the staff!

Though the park is closed until Easter 2019 we will keep this page active with updates and pictures!
Though we said the Racoon Dogs were the last of the new arrivals for 2018, we have been searching for a suitable companion for Rolo, our male Dwarf Zebu for some time now. A sunny November day seemed a good time to introduce everyone to Millie our new female Zebu.
She may only have one horn but Rolo seems quite taken with her!

Even with lots of new animals arriving this year, one of the most popular additions was the new play park!
Half term is nearly over along with the 2018 season. Come and let the kids burn off some energy at the park. The Halloween decorations are still up and we even have a few pumpkins left to carve!

❄️ After a frosty start to the morning, the sun is out and set to be a stunning autumn day! ☀️
Though Halloween has gone, all the decorations are still up round the park. We close for the season at 4pm this Sunday so not long to get a first or final visit for the season!

🎃🧟‍♂️ HAPPY HALLOWEEN 👻🧙‍♀️
A gorgeous sunny day here in the park. Here are some pictures of the animals getting into the Halloween spirit...some more so than others!

Looking for something to do for Halloween? We are open 10.30-4 all this week!

🧙‍♀️ 🧟‍♂️ 🎃 👻
All the Halloween decorations are up round the park. We close for the season in one week so not long no left to see all the new animals! With the Halloween displays, a treasure hunt, face painting and pumpkin carving this half term is a great time to visit!

The last of the new animals for 2018 arrived on Monday, two Racoon Dogs! These are not to be confused with Racoons from North America and are a totally different species originating from East Asia.
Again they are a bit shy while settling into their new enclosure. They are proving popular with the visitors - with a face like that they certainly have the cute factor!
