An all too frequent problem with present fire extinguisher systems is user lack of awareness and knowledge on how the fire extinguisher works and how it needs to be operated. Using currently available devices generally also involves a degree of danger to the operator through his /her having to use a device close to the base of the fire. There is also a significant financial cost associated with most current products available, as multiple types of fire extinguishers are needed in order to tackle different classes of fire. Kitchen fires, in particular, are still being addressed using fire blankets designed in the late 1950’s – a totally inadequate way to tackle such a fire. For larger applications, such as fire engines, the current foam and water solutions can take up to 25 times longer to extinguish a fire than the Firescape solution, thereby risking firefighters’ lives and further damage to property. It Is also important to note that since May 2009, regulations in the USA, Canada, EU, Australia, And Japan have banned new production of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) based products, including one of the major foam applications used as a standard fire suppression resource, as it had been shown as a persistent, bio-accumulative, and toxic pollutant.

The Firescape solution is over 100 times more effective than conventional extinguishing media (based on technical specifications obtained during testing exercises from an independent source), and as a result substantially less extinguishing media is required to extinguish a fire. Consequently the Firescape solution is significantly more environmentally friendly as less toxic run off from the fire is able to enter the water environment. For example, using one 9 litre extinguisher filled with the Firescape solution, firefighters can extinguish a car fire in under 1 minute. This compares to traditional fire fighting techniques that would require up to 1800 litres of water dispersed from a fire appliance crewed by six personnel. Furthermore, the Firescape solution can tackle all classes of fire; therefore the requirement to have 3 different variants of extinguisher is eradicated. As a result of this, Firescape’s extinguishers are considerably more cost effective as the need for staff training to identify different types of extinguisher is removed, in addition to ongoing maintenance and servicing costs of multiple extinguishers.
