"Well, where do I actually begin to start, with such an absolutely amazingly appetising selection of FRESHLY prepared food, that one would quite naturally expect to find, already cooked, sitting, waiting for the next hungry expectant customer. Which can, at times, mean up to 10-20-50mins cooked before being placed in front of you.

BUT NOT HERE... FRESHLY COOKED.

Now this gorgeous example of a traditional 'Fish & chip" love affair, established via generations of Friday evenings, has been beautifully crafted to tell your mouth, tongue & tastebuds, "please fasten your seat belts", and then proceeds to give you an incredible roller coaster ride... ... ...

One that ONLY seems to go up, Up & UP, as once you've decided what's going in your mouth first (mine was the crispy tail-end) starts your incredible journey upwards; as your eyebrows raise whilst thinking,

"OMG, that's Sooooo differently good, light, crispy batter like I've never tasted in my 37 years since starting in the food industry".

And then I made the mistake of dipping my haddock in the homemade tartar sauce.

That's when the 1st massive scarey thing happened as I thought,

"Oh my days; that's BETTER then mine", dipping in again, deeper, actually curving my wrist-action to ensure maximum pickup of that sweet/creamy/tart/caper filled flavour as I reached for a chip to accompany & amplify the excellent experience that I stupidly thought was gonna be a 'standard thing'. Now I dunno about you, but I HATE ANY black bits on my chips and seeing a plate of this size & quantity completely devoid of such objects, made me smile deeply as I greedily 'tucked-in'...

Each & every mouthful was an experience depending on how I chose to stack the fork, hahaha.

The fish was so fresh I was looking for some sand on my plate... ... ...

Each chip a delight to devour... ... ...

The mushy peas, warmed normally, NOT microwaved to a mass-hotter-then-the-Sun, went down a treat, and quickly too, for once.

The lemon drizzled haddock had to be tied down to the plate, because that batter was so light it almost raised it up to the ceiling. But once that handmade tasty tartar sauce hits it, any & all responsible 'handlers-of-the-fork', WILL ensure its only trajectory can be into your awaiting gullet... (trust me).

It was so good, I couldn't bear to leave a single morsel. And with that tartar sauce making even a bulk-standard chip a magical munch, nothing was left, I ashamedly HAD to ask the chef the recipe for 'that sauce' & how he made such a light oil-free beautiful batter too.

Staff very attentive, polite & accommodating with a lovely large seating area too.

Get ya buns down here quicktime, to make an ordinary experience, into a excellent exciting eating expedition into a dish we all know so well, but made to be so different... ... ...

Enjoy.

This restaurant has such delicious food and absolutely faultless customer service! The lady serving us was so friendly and kind it was such a nice experience to have someone so committed to ensuring their customers are having a good time. Since we live in east London it's a bit of a trip for us but whenever we go back to St Albans for a day out we will always make time for a meal here!

User

The restaurant was clean and comfortable, the staff pleasant and the food was fantastic, they even make a decent cup of tea. The only 2 downsides was I would have preferred bread and butter instead of a roll and there is zero parking

User

Probably the best fish & chips in the world,....ever.

I take my children and their great grand parents out every Tuesday. I can hand on heart say this has been the nicest experience we have had. The food was loved by everyone and the staff / management are exceptional and so accommodating.

I vary rarely write reviews so when I do you can be sure it's either very bad or very VERY good.

If you have any special requirements just ask and they will make sure your party feels welcome and looked after.

Thankyou - i do struggles with a 2 year old and a 10 month old and you have made it such a pleasant experience.

User

Had numerous takeaways and eat-ins here and never ever had a bad meal - the fish and chips are fantastic - even got my dads seal of approval (he lives up in North Yorkshire where the chippies are the best). Best curry sauce outside of Yorkshire too!

User

First class service , and food was superb . Once you taste the food you will be back for more.

User

Best fish and chips ever. I love when sometimes they have special grilled (healthy)fish available :)

User

Warm and friendly service. Piping hot and tasty cod roe and chips. It does work out a little pricey but the portion was plentiful and it was really tasty. Great option for a quick Friday night pre-theatre dinner.

User

There are not too many fish & chip shops you can eat in these days unless your by the sea. So I am very pleased to say that this is one of the best of the few. Great food and service.👍🏻

User
