About Flexible Healing - Physiotherapy Clinic And Training

Based in Otley, West Yorkshire, we offer tailored physiotherapy treatments for short-term or chronic pain. We also offer Pilates classes.

Flexible Healing - Physiotherapy Clinic And Training Description

Patients visit our practice with a wide range of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Our soft tissue mobilisations, are based in the ground braking Hendrickson Method, which not only allows to affect the soft tissue, also the joints via the unique wave mobilisation, which is a very gentle movement that allow the spine to rock enabling the body to hydrate the joints. Our treatments have helped many other conditions including, asthma, osteoarthritis, TMJ pain and chronic fatigue syndrome.

On your first visit to our practice, a detailed case history will be taken to allow us to create a bespoke treatment plan for you. This will take into account past medical history and a hands on assessment.

We will explain all our insights and findings and discuss timescales and expectations of recovery as each person is unique. We continually reassess to ensure that the plan we devised is working for you.

Hendrickson Method massage and manual therapy for Orthopedic conditions can help a number of complaints including:

Poor circulation
- Arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. These we cannot cure, but can certainly ease the pain and increase mobility thus improving quality of life
- Back pain and neck tension
- Stress relief and relaxation
- Sports injuries
- Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
- Sprains and strains
- Whiplash injuries
- Frozen shoulder
- Tennis elbow
- Chronic headaches
- TMJ

We also run various Continuing Professional Development Workshops throughout the year with the aim of these workshops is not only to improve your skills but also to provide a caring environment that is comfortable and conducive to your professional development. Over the years these courses have been attended by a diverse range of professions such as osteopaths, physiotherapists, massage therapists, yoga teachers and pilates instructors.

This will give you an opportunity to enjoy a weekend of relaxed learning. These workshops provide practitioners the opportunity to experience and learn the Hendrickson Method and also the theories of Vladimir Janda. This cutting edge massage therapy and mobilisation of the body is totally unique and is only accessible in the UK through our practice

The other workshops that we offer are a reflection of Sue Bennett, the practice owner and the practice itself.

I was recommend this book by one of my lovely interesting patients, who said let me know what you think! It is a challenging read both content and message, the main point in brief is that we all have moments of suffering, heart ache feelings of abandonment. However when we accept the only way forward is to our own responsibility to how we respond, do we allow it to define us or to rise from it, make choices that our best for ourselves. It was so worth taking the time to read ...s book written in 1946, not always easy for the dyslexic 😄. * * * #mylife #hendricksonmethod #teaching #physio #workshop #sharingknowledge #biosycosocial #musclework #lifelonglearning #reflection #pilates

This was quite a day! full of learning, moments of great reflection, felt like a honour to be in the company of someone taught by Joe Pilates himself. Thank you Claire Sparrow @movementeducation for your journey and desire to share 💕👍🙂

This is a 'sit down with a good cuppa' kinda read, brought to my attention by Gary Carter. It made me reflect all those years ago when my original teachers Ken Woodward and Bessie Beryl Harper, would say, ' when they come to us, it's because their in search of something different. The difference is we have to see the whole person not just their label' We have found explaining neurological processes has enabled both the people we treat, leading to some life changing results. As for the therapist we teach, giving them greater understanding thus enabling them the support the people they treat. 💕👍

This was mentioned to me by one of the very people that come to our Clinic, made me smile, it just reflects how connected the whole body is. And yes! those of you that know knit, I know I haven't time to recreate 🤣 Thanks for the mention Angela Barrow

do love my Friday mornings, early walks with Eddie dog. Reflecting, breathing, thinking creating and giving myself space just to be. This week in clinic we have found ourselves talking alot about how do we find resilience, how do we allow ourselves to 'choose' me! sometimes we have to do this to over coming longterm pain. We recommend a good read, a Year of Saying Yes by @shondrarhimes or Daring Greatly @brenebrown. Both books offer inspirational suggestions, truthful, huma...n thoughts, humour, a chance for personal reflection. Sometimes we just have to be brave and courageous to create changes. Both books encouraged me ! * * * #hendricksonmethod #brave #breathing #mylife #physio #physiotherapy #workshop #lifelonglearning #biosycosocial #pilaties #courage #happinness #lovemywork #lifespurpose @ Otley

I love the sea 💕 always have. It was my super happy place as a child, it was the power, the ebb and flow, you could stand, swim, sense of infinite power, vastness. My father bought me a wooden bodyboard. For the first time ever I was really great at something that could be called sporty! not just good, rather good, I could listen/feel the pull of the water and catch the waves. Our bodies are made up of 50 - 75% water deepening on which which website you read. Within the Hendr...ickson Method, there is 'wave mobilisation' we create waves and ripples through the water in your body, helping to lubricate your joints, centre the central nervous system, and aid a little normalisation to the autonomic nervous system. As therapist we listen as the body gently waves feeling the body come back into our hands, ready to for the next 'wave'. I never knew all those years ago that the sea was teaching me to listen

Cold & windy yet sunny 💕🙂 Nancy@moorpilates has really helped me create great stability through my pelvis allowing my hips to create some very fab peddle power. Friday morning early walk with Eddie dog, loving early morning spring light.
Yet again a morning of reflection on treatments given and the previous weekend teaching assessment of Lumber Spine and Hip
Whilst we teach in segments, we then always investigate how the whole body would come into play when we have Lumber and Hip pain.... For example when assessing, trendelenburg testing positive result occurs, you have to ask the how and why? looking broader around postural misalignment or muscles just working to their full potential. Equally MRI tests giving results of bulging disc, prolapse disc, facet joint degeneration. We must always be curious to the how come ??. Ken Woodward my original teacher would always say 'curiosity is key to treating people's injury's and pain'
We investigated again postural imbalances, life style, movement patterns. Also exploring choices people make that may inhibit recovery, reflecting on our own believes and values, asking are we clear about them? do we then impose these on people we treat? Whilst we can sit with great anatomy and physiology, if we also have an approach which is wholehearted, compassionate and empathic for the people we treat to feel safe, it can enable them to be open to receive the treatment we are offering. * * * #hendricksonmethod #softtissuemobilisation #lifelonglearning #sharingknowledge #longtermpain #mindbodyintergration #breathing #teaching #learning #musclefibres #musclework #workshop #wholehearted #massagetherapy #flexiblehealing #physiotherapy #Pilates #mylife #bisycosocial @ Flexible Healing - Physiotherapy Clinic and Training

This quote really resonates with me, with my reflections on a weekend of teaching. We addressed the anatomy & physiology, however we some time talking about the importance of the patients story of their pain/dysfunction, also being brave and acknowledged our own stories that brought us to body work & what stops us taking care of selves. * * *... #movement #mindbodyintegration #sharingknowledge #physiotherapy #Pilates #lifelonglearning #mylife #iambecoming #workshop #wholehearted #sharingknowledge #wavemobilisation #musclefibres #massagetherapy

After lots of aborted attempts!! I have filmed prickly balls for the feet. We do this at the beginning of each Pilates class I teach, to draw awareness to fascial connection, may begin with the feet?, we always pause after the first foot to notice the difference, asking how far and where can you feel the difference in your body?? always remembering to keep it slow for a full experience! Thank you my HM practitioner students

Weekend 5 of our Hendrickson Method Practitioner Programme, assessment of Lumber Spine and Hip, exploring how our posture, life style, emotional moment in life can all come together and create lower back pain. The Hendrickson Method allows the therapist to reach deeper soft tissue and fascia gently with out pain or a secondary inflammatory response. Wonderful to share knowledge!!

User

One of our practitioner student brought this video to.my attention. Wonderfully explanation! We try to explain this theory in our clinic and teachings

Feeling truly proud of my Wednesday mat class as they made a awesome attempt at teaser this evening ??👏👍💕

Their healing technique is excellent and I was totally pain free after a few sessions. I would certainly not hesitate in recommending them to others. Ros worked miracles.

User

Sue's technique of working out which is the best approach and responding flexibly to the issues she is trying to fix helps me a lot. It will never be a case of a complete repair for me, but the relief of freedom in my spine and hips is much appreciated.

User

I ve been going to Sue for years now & i can walk in in agony & she sorts it out, she can tell by looking at me what & where the problem is. She is really friendly & welcoming & an amazing person
