Is #manflu a #myth? This figure produced my our #lshtm #fusurvey colleagues shows the distribution of reported health scores by healthy participants, participants who had cold and participants who had influenza like illness; Men coded in #blue and Women in #pink. There was no significant gender gap difference in the health scores reported from the #flusurvey data. #onlinesurvey #flusurveillance #surveillancesystems #flumonitoring

Good morning!!!!!
Its officially the first week of seasonal Influenza (flu) surveillance in the UK. The National Influenza Surveillance Team at Public Health England (PHE) coordinates and collates influenza surveillance for the UK. Influenza is not a notifiable disease but It can cause a wide range of illnesses, from a very mild or asymptomatic infection to a very serious illness, which can result in hospitalisation and death. To protect you and the people around you, flu vac...cination is recommended especially for at risk groups and children. More information about the source of data used for monitoring flu activity can be found here https://www.gov.uk/โ€ฆ/sources-of-uk-flu- data-influenza-surveโ€ฆ
Flusurvey will commence from the 31st of October (Flu Week 44), the survey monitors trends of influenza like illness in the community. If you are a UK resident and would like to participate, please sign up via our website www.flusurvey.net to create your profile. Please share this post with your network as we aim to recruit at least 10,000 participants this season.
This platform is for sharing as much information as we can about Flusurvey.
Have a great week.

Do you know the best way to stop flu spreading and protectimg the most vulnerable is by getting vaccinated. Some population subgroups (pregnant women, children and adults in a clinical risk group, 65+ and frontline healthcare workers) can receive FREE flu vaccine through the NHS. Please contact your local healthcare providers to enquiry if you or your family member is eligible for free influenza vaccine. Lets stop the transmission chain.

During last winterโ€™s flu season, we recruited over 4000 individuals who reported their flu symptoms every week. Over the course of the season, we found that 33 per 1000 participants had an influenza like illness.
This form of participatory surveillance is particularly important during the winter season as it gives us vital information about flu activity in the community.

The Flu season is now upon us and we will be using Flusurvey, an online web surveillance system where participants report weekly flu like symptoms, to monitor trends in the UK.
