Pete Simonds
I grew up in Devon and started fishing at an early age. My Dad, Tom Simonds taught me how to cast a fly rod when I was about eight. I caught my first trout from the River Otter (Upstream Dry Fly). I also enjoyed Coarse fishing for Carp, Tench and Pike; sea fishing for Bass from Exmouth and fly fishing for trout in the rivers and lakes in the Southwest and at Chew and Blagdon.

In May 1984, I had a RTA and suffered a complete spinal lesion resulting in paraplegia at T4 level. But that didn’t stop me. By August I had a day out of hospital and spent it fly fishing with my Dad; I caught a nice Rainbow Trout at some clear water chalk ponds, near the Spinal Injuries Unit at Odstock, Salisbury in Wiltshire. My Dad and I went to Andros Island, in The Bahamas and stayed at “Cargill Creek Bonefish Club” in 1992 for a week. I caught my first batch of Bones and had my first trip to the Westside. An experience you can never forget! In 1994 I started Offshore Sports Fishing on Andros Island, where we caught a lot of good fish; 50lb Wahoo, Kingfish and Dorado up to 25 /30lb and, some Dorado on a fly rod.
In 2006, I was sponsored by South West Lakes Trust and the Environment Agency to take the Level 2 JAGB Instructors course and received my certificate in Coaching Sports Angling. I have also been fortunate enough to get a lot of excellent casting instruction from some of the best guides Andros has to offer.

In 2014 I took a good friend of mine with me (who I taught to fish a few years ago), where he caught his first bonefish with Glister Wallace. I went on my own in 2015 April and May and 2016 from May to June and I caught my “best” Bonefish (7-8lb) with Captain Eddie Rolle from the Middle Bight. I got some good Westside bones too while looking for those big Westside Tarpon.

I have done some guiding and instructing at a few open days; but due to poor health and other circumstances, it has only recently been possible for me to start a sports fishing career. I have enjoyed Still Water Trout Fishing in the south west at Kennick, Wimbleball, Clatworthy and Chew. I have been utilizing the boats supplied by the Wheelie Boat Trust for many years and have become very familiar with handling them appropriately and safely.

Andros Island Bonefish Rep. (Not an Agent)
I don’t get a cut or add a charge. I represent the clubs and guides independently and for free to promote all of the fishing clubs on Andros and support the community. I have acquired an extensive knowledge in relation to “what`s what, and who`s who” on Andros Island, I am well known and I know all the right and relevant people.

So I would be happy to give advice, and /or assist anyone who would like to start booking a fishing holiday to Andros Island.

Wimbleball is up and running, boats and fish in the lake now, trout are hard, go early or late! But there are lots of Roach/Rud about, the Upton arm`s has a huge shoal of fish moving around, stay still and quiet and they will swim up to and under the boat. some are half a pound, take a 5/6 # and cast a 16- 18-20 dry fly or buzzer and sight fish for them, keep the line straight and tight, figure of 8 retrieve, they will pluck and pick, when they pull, you pull the line, don`t move the rod tip, if you miss just keep figure of 8! good fun.

First days fishing this year at Clatworthy.
