Football On This Day – 7th February 1970
George Best gave a masterclass performance when he scored 6 goals in an FA Cup Fifth Round match at the County Ground home of Northampton Town. Manchester United won the match 8-2. Northampton's goalkeeper, Kim Book, later said 'not even the Berlin Wall could have stopped Best that day' while Ray Fairfax, Bests' marker, said 'the closest I got to him was when we shook hands after the game.'

Football On This Day – 30th January 1988 Port Vale caused one of the most memorable FA Cup shocks in the competition’s history. Their 2-1 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round was played in front of 20,045.Spurs were the hot favourites, but couldn’t match Vale who won the game thanks to goals from Ray Walker and Phil Sproson, despite Neil Ruddock pulling one back.

Football On This Day – 29th January 1932 Tommy Taylor was born in Barnsley. He was one of the eight Manchester United players who lost their lives in the Munich air disaster Matt Busby rejected an offer of £65,000 for him from Inter Milan in 1957. Had the deal gone through, then it would have broken the world transfer record.
