Today we have enjoyed picking our vegetables in the garden and eating them at snack time. The children tried Courgettes, Carrots, potatoes and lettuce.

Why is play so important? Why we do what we do?
Role Play Dressing-up helps children to begin to make sense of the adult world, roles, and interests, as well as boosting social interaction. Not least, dressing-up helps to reinforce the self-care aspects of self-dressing which is essential for primary school life.
... Something to try at home: You don't have to buy lots of expensive outfits, children love using everyday items just as much as the imaginary role play kits. Why not collate a basket of empty cleaning items such as a spray polish and clothe, some unused scrubbies and dish clothes, tea towels and an empty bottle of washing up liquid. If you're worried about them using the items fasten them with celotape. The children will love using these items along side you whilst you clean away together. http://ow.ly/5o1N50uDWMD

Making the most of the rain <3
The children really enjoyed exploring water and splashing in puddles with their wellies on, after all the rain we have had this week. Today the preschool children enjoyed working together to build a bridge to get over the puddles without getting wet, This prompted lots of discussions and ideas and problem solving - making the most of this wet weather.

We are once again this year sponsoring the Walmer Bridge Beer and Bangers festival taking place this weekend. Why not call in over the weekend and treat Dad to a pint of beer and a banger. Children's entertainment on Sunday from 1.00pm till 6.00pm. http://ow.ly/IeDb50uDV5W

We had two little visitors in our nursery garden this week.
Two hedgehogs came into the garden, unfortunately they had got tangled in some netting - so we took them to the vets for them to be checked over. This sparked a lot of interest and questions from the children, so following on from our little visit we found some facts all about Hedgehogs, some Hedgehog poems and stories and created an interest box for our children to look at in the garden.

Why is play so important?
Play Dough
Play dough has immense potential for learning. Not only does it strengthen fingers in preparation for a lifetime of writing, it teaches fine motor skills, creativity, and hand-eye coordination. Add some beads to the dough for a fine-motor exercise, or get the kids threading beads on to lengths of dried spaghetti held in the dough, for extra play-value. ... Check out this fun way to play with your dough at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMz7wls3m jU

Spotlight on Schemas: Have you ever watched your child at play and wondered why they are continually repeating certain actions? You can maybe recall watching your child continually drop toys from their pram or highchair, or fill up bags and boxes and move things around different parts of your home. If so, it is possible that your child is engaging in schematic play. Schematic play happens when babies, toddlers and young children are involved in repeated actions or certain beh...aviours as they explore the world around them and try to find out how things work. We call these specific actions or behaviours 'Schemas'. They can vary from child to child and some children may never display schematic play or behaviours. Very young children benefit from opportunities to repeat and practise different actions. This helps their brain development and learning as they grow and develop. For example, actions of up and down, going from side to side, and rotating will support children when they begin to make marks, draw and eventually write. There are many types of schemas that children often display. Some will have a predominant schema such as showing an interest in things that move up and down and round-about. Others will show more than one at a time. For example, they may hide objects or themselves, wrap things up, and enjoy connecting and disconnecting toys.
