About Forest Holme Hospice Charity

Forest Holme Hospice, part of Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, provides end of life care and support to more than 1, 000 people each year with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses across Poole, Wimborne and Isle of Purbeck.

Forest Holme Hospice Charity Description

Forest Holme Hospice, part of Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is a centre of excellence in the care of those with life-limiting illnesses. We provide specialist help and support to adults in our community who are seriously ill. We don't just look after people with cancer; our expertise extends to other life-limiting illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease, heart disease and respiratory illness. Forest Holme Hospice Charity financially supports the life-enhancing work of the hospice and operates this Facebook page.

Forest Holme is a 12 bedded hospice, but with thanks to our wonderful community teams we are able to care for those who wish to stay in their own homes. Each year we support 1600 members of our local community.

We need to raise £2 million over the next three years in order to continue providing exceptional palliative and end of life care.

Great effort from Karen Johnson who has signed-up for our 25km for 25 Years challenge and has already completed the Sydling Hill 10k (which is actually 11k!).
Karen's planning at least two more races to hit the 25km and the next one will be three 5 mile laps in a unicorn outfit for the Unicorn Frolic! 😲🦄

A massive thank you to Andy and his team from Elite Fabrication & Welding Ltd and Neil and the team from Dolphin Marine, who together have created our lovely Celebration of Life Tree in the hospice garden.
Thanks to their generosity, Forest Holme supporters will now be able to dedicate a leaf for a donation, which will be engraved with a personalised message for your loved one.❤️
Each leaf tribute will be displayed within our hospice garden for a year (from the day it is fir...st mounted), after which there will be the option to renew for another 12 months, or have the leaf returned to keep.
We ask for a minimum yearly donation of £60 to dedicate a leaf, which can also be paid in monthly instalments of £5.
To dedicate a leaf, please complete a dedication form, which are available within the hospice or by contacting the fundraising team either via Facebook Messenger, tel: 01202 670644 or email: fundraising@forestholmehospice.org.u k

Your generous donations have enabled us to have our hospice car park upgraded and yesterday Sportshall Markings Ltd visited to paint new parking bay lines, which they kindly did at a heavily discounted rate.

The wonderful Vivamente Voices performed their final concert in support of Forest Holme at St Nicholas Church Corfe Mullen recently, so we would like to thank them for choosing the hospice as their Charity of the Year and we can't wait to see how much they have raised in total!

User

Thank you to the Mike Harriott and the Corfe Castle Club who very kindly made a cheque donation of £500 to the charity last week from money raised through their own lottery.

Thank you Helen Ross and her son Ellis who delivered these beautiful hand painted pebbles to the office yesterday.
To mark our 25th anniversary, we will be hiding decorated pebbles around the area (Poole, Wimborne and Isle of Purbeck) for others to find and then rehide!
If you'd like to get involved, all you need to do is paint a rock (or write a positive message), write ‘Forest Holme Hospice Rocks’ on the back, take a photo, upload it to our Facebook page, then hide the rock and make a stranger smile when they find it! Hopefully they will feel the love and paint one too!

In 2008 our new relatives’ lounge was officially opened by the lovely Fiona Castle - wife of entertainer Roy Castle OBE, who laid the foundation stone of the building in 1993 just before his death - following a successful grant application from the The King's Fund. #ThrowBackThursday #FH25Years

A publication written by a Forest Holme supporter in memory of his wife has been published to raise funds for the hospice.
David Thorburn’s ‘Holding Hands In The Dark’ is an honest and open account of what it’s like for a wife and mum of four, with eight grandchildren, living with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Featuring poems, photographs and diary extracts, the publication documents the impact of life with his beloved wife Anita, detailing her physical and emotional journey f...rom initial diagnosis to her passing at Forest Holme in 2017, age 63.
With encouragement from others (including our hospice counsellors), he began to explore and express his feelings about what he describes as the “most profound experience of my life.”
‘Holding Hands In The Dark’ is available from fundraising for £2 or by post for £3 (incl p&p). Please contact the fundraising team either via Facebook Messenger, tel: 01202 670644 or email: fundraising@forestholmehospice.org
