About Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company

Based in London, Fourth Monkey offers innovative & forward-thinking actor training as a viable alternative to traditional conservatoire routes.

Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company Description

"Frankly a wonderful company"- The Scotsman

"Ensemble theatre at it's best"- The Stage

Based in London, Fourth Monkey offers innovative and forward-thinking actor training for the contemporary world of performance. With an emphasis on ensemble and repertory performance whilst learning and working with practising professionals, our actors in training receive the most comprehensive preparation available for the industry in the most supportive of environments.

Our actor training is widely regarded as the primary alternative to conservatoire training in the UK today, developing and delivering actors into the industry in the most vibrant and contemporary of ways. Alongside their training in London our actors, benefit from travelling and performing overseas and throughout the UK, learning via the power of ‘doing’ through repertory performance.

Upon completion of their training our actors go on to work in TV, film, and on the stage as well as for us, by means of our professional touring company, Fourth Monkey Ensemble and indeed for themselves; a number of our graduates going on to form their own successful companies. We don’t like to think of our training as a revolution, more an evolution.

Evolutionary Actor Training. For an Evolving Industry.

There will also be opportunity to chat with Steve about our training and future opportunities.

Workshop highlights:
- Complicité inspired bamboo exercises - Laban tension states character work - Character archetypes based on the actor’s movement - Expressive physical movement tasks - Meisner work with textual extracts (of our choice) focusing on repetition and response - A Q&A with Steve where students can ask further questions about the work, influences, our work in the industry today, audition preparation and further development

Performances at Fourth Monkey never fail to impress. Very moving and inspirational. Acting and directing of the highest quality. Stars of the future.

User

Loved the show. It was very imaginative and the acting was outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the acting of Medusa.

The front of house staff were extremely friendly and polite. Xxx

User

Great show and a friendly venue. Warm welcome, comfortable pre show area and an Intimate setting for smaller scale works

User

Full time training with great teachers. Learn more than you would at conventional college.

Are we sure of anything we see on TV, hear on the radio, or read in the newspapers or, heaven forbid, on Twitter? This Julius Caesar shows us how the mob can be turned - like a tide - with appeals to heart over head. And it shows how the mightiest statesmen and warriors can be brought down, not because of what they have done, but of what they might do. This performance surrounds you, shakes you, draws you in, persuades you of the justice of a violent coup, and then cajoles you to call for revenge on the perpetrators of that coup. The doubt is there, who do we trust?

That the actors have received great coaching, there is no doubt, but it is not the coaching that is on show: these were honest, compelling performances. The staging was more than you would hope of a student production and expect of a professional one. I want more of the same.

An actor training programme one step ahead of the time. The school challenges the convention of what contemporary acting training should be like. The curriculum at Fourth Monkey is almost entirely physical. I am on Two Year Rep course and we are continuously engaged in creating content and, while working as one ensemble, always encouraging and supportive to allow each individual to grow. No words are enough to say how much I am enjoying it! So immensely fortunate to train here
